Pop Quiz: What do Dick Cheney, Alan Keyes, Randall Terry, Bob Mosbacher, H.R. Haldeman and Phyllis Schlafly have in common? Each of those right-wing politicos has adopted public, anti-homosexual stands ... and all have gay children.
Check out the summer issue of Radar for Abigail Pogrebin's article The Kids Stay Out of the Picture. The major issue facing the children:
Should you divide into queer and leftist politics (see: Maya Keyes, Tess Fields, Jamiel Terry, Shannon Byrne, David Knight, Richard Socarides)? Or do you live quietly, resisting attention and try not to upset the family apple cart (see: John Schalfly, Mary Cheney)? And maybe if you're lucky, your family will eventually thaw and learn to accept you (see: Peter Haldeman and Dee Miosbacher, the Mary Cheney of the '92 Bush campaign).
It's a thorough, well-written piece. The writer does not condemn young Schlafly and Cheney nor beatify Maya Keyes or Jamiel Terry. Instead she chooses on the familial relationships that we all must endure. "The disheartening truth is, to a large extent, the relationship that you have with your family is beyond your control."
BTW, the article is only mentioned on Radar's website. You have to buy the "Premier Issue! $1.99!" to read the coverage.

Where do all these deep throats and long tongues come from anyway. We're having a bulldagger and sissy(faggot) epidemic.
