On Friday night at least 50,000 marched in Rome's annual pride parade. The celebration and protests went on as scheduled, despite heavy opposition from the Vatican, a political row over same-sex unions and calls to cancel the festivities out of respect for the London terrorist attacks. Thanks for posting about Italy's pride parade. I went to World Pride in Rome in 2000 and had a great time. For that occasion there were over 200,000 people, including lots of straight Italian orgs and politicians who marched to protest Vatican interference in the permitting process. It turned out the pride parade was by far the biggest event in Rome during the Church's jubilee year. When will they learn?
