The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul meets the High Priestess of Soul. Mary J. Blige is attached to a star in a Nina Simone biopic. The as-yet untitled project would be the singer's first starring role in a film. If written and directed carefully, this could be very interesting—there's no replacing Nina Simone, but Mary would be the perfect vehicle to introduce the legendary singer's music and the turbulent 1960s to a generation of apathetic couch potatoes. Let's just keep you-know-who away from this project, mm'kay?
Speaking of MJB, did anyone catch her new video?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Yes, Mary needs SOMETHING different, be it this or something else. I've heard some of her new tracks and I think she's reached a creative wall. I love her, but there's been no evolution over the past few years.

POOR NINA. IF SHE WASN'T ALREADY PHYSICALLY DEAD, THIS WOULD KILL HER. MAYBE NINA CAN PUT A SPELL ON THE PRODUCTION AND IT WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY.

The perfect person, provided she can act, would be India Arie. I believer she would capture the essence of Nina, lyrically and physically.

hopegully this will go the same road as Janet playing Dorothy Dandridge/I agree India Arie

India.Arie would be perfect.
Mary somewhat favors Nina, but for some reason, I just see too much baggage there. I like Mary, but she's no Nina Simone, not even close. Nina was so political.

get it mary, i am so proud you.you can see the changes you have made in your life ever since meeting that cute husband of yours.that be without you is hot.you are so happy and i know you'll do well in the movie.sometimes its the unexpected that takes over and does a movie justice

Nina would die again if she knew Mary was set to play her in a film. I love Mary J, but in no way should she be attached to this project. She's operating on a whole other platform than Nina. I agree India Arie would be a much better choice, and doesn't bring so much baggage to the table as Mary would.

I love my brothers, truly I do, but MARY IS PERFECT FOR THIS PART! It is Mary's ANGST and BAGGAGE that make her perfect. Nina was harsh and hard-headed and political and fiery and aggressive and moody and tempermental and brilliant and flawed and eloquent and raw--MARY J. BLIGE INDEED!
I have indeed great concerns about the script, but I think I am as open to this as I was to Diana Ross doing Billie Holliday, and we see what that masterpiece did.
So, let's stay open and hope it's a Great Thing!

I been a Mary Fan for so long and i cant to see her in another movie. She was great in the movie "Prison Song". I hope she does well with this one.
The Breakthrough drops Dec. 20th!

It won't happen. Mark my words. Nina Simone's estate is VERY protective of her legacy.
