Rape suspect and Duke University lacrosse player Collin Finnerty now faces two trials. This morning, D.C. Superior Court Judge John Bayly ordered the student to stand trial for a November incident. Finnerty was arrested in D.C. for allegedly assaulting a man in Georgetown and yelling anti-gay epithets.

·"It is a very embarrassing moment," says Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs of the Nassau County Legislature, after last night's surprise defeat of a plan to create a domestic partnership registry. Last night's 10-8 vote, with one abstention, came after much heated debate. Critics said the registry would violate "social traditions" and its real purpose was to promote gay marriage. Among other things, the proposal would have made it easier for a partner to receive medical insurance from a private employer, or, to gain access to the other person during a medical emergency. All of the legislature's nine Republicans voted no and one Democrat crossed party lines.
