2006_07_07_buju_banton150Black Britain publishes a rather interesting pro/con article on this week's Buju Banton and Beenie Man cancellations.

It begins with an impassioned speech by Dennis Carney, the black gay activist, and segues into pseudo-logic by Bobo El Numero, the well-known London reggae promoter. El Numero's ridculous argument is that slavery and colonialism have caused a "culture clash" between "black people who have chosen a gay lifestyle and those who cannot accept homosexuality because of deeply-rooted religious beliefs." Nonsensical to argue that lyrics which inspire death or violence are deeply-rooted in Christian fundamentalism, no? Thankfully, the article closes with a reminder that Jamaica’s most prominent gay activists, Brian Williamson and Steve Harvey, were violently murdered. Not sure about the correlation between those murders and colonialism.

· The Los Angeles Times profiles rare, so-called "elite controllers." They are HIV positive but not ill—perhaps one-third of 1% of those infected and may hold the key to its cure.

2006_07_07_marcellas140“I am in shock. I am America’s black gay sweetheart. I cannot believe this.” Macellas Reynolds to Julie Chen, after he failed to make the viewer cut on Big Brother: All Stars. However, our former high school classmate did make the show as a producer's choice. Last night's vote was odd because Marcellas has remained popular as the host of Big Brother House Calls.

· "[Marc Schaffel] was directing two guys. They were naked from head to toe and he was telling one what to do with the other and he grabbed their penis or something." In video testimony, a "shocked" Michael Jackson says he was outraged to discover footage of his one-time video producer directing a gay porn film. Schaffel is suing MJ for breach-of-contract and says Jacko knew of his past work and is prepared to discuss "Jackson's sexual proclivities."

Sometimes, in my prayers, I thank the good Lord that I like big boys with big dingdongs and big feet. Michael is so sad. Actually, I'm not partial to dingdongs too big--who wants to be TRYING to sit down in the hospital emergency ward all embarrassed (mentally and physically)?

i thought smoking weed made people more chill. this "kill the battyman" music taps into a rage within me i can't even describe - a rage that's heightened by people who make excuses for such "music."

what saddens me the most is that i'm a black american who has a cold, disconnected, angry feeling when i think of jamaica, cameroon, egypt, or any number of places in the african diaspora.
