DVD Review: "Noah's Arc"

2006_08_08_noah_dvd

One of the sexiest scenes from the first season of Noah's Arc was in the very first episode, My One Temptation. Ricky (Christian Vincent) has just hired Dwayne (model-actor-choreographer and Rod 2.0 crush object Nate Adams) as his newest assistant at the boutique. Ricky brings his new employee to the soon-to-be-infamous storage room and the two perform inventory—on each other. The scene includes nudity, bare butt, simulated (?) sex and the first of many examples that Liza—sorry, we mean Ricky, not sure why we keep making that mistake—is the biggest top in Los Angeles.

If you don't recall watching this, and, do not remember it from our scene-by-scene recap, that's okay. This is one of the deleted "too-hot-for-television" scenes that is included in Noah's Arc: The Complete First Season, a new DVD collection that is released today. The three-disc collection includes the nine episodes of the first season—the first episode was actually in two parts—as well as nine deleted scenes, the pilot episode, and, the actors' auditions. With so many extras, this is icing on the cake for those fans who watched the show during its broadcast. For those who are new to the series, it's like winning the trifecta at the OTB.

Obviously, we've seen the episodes many times, so it was the extras that caught our eye. Most are "director's cut" scenes that push the boundaries of accepted sexuality on basic cable television. Besides Ricky's sexcapades and the extended love scenes between Wade and Noah, there are some hilarious moments. Noah, Alex, Chance and Ricky in the men's room at the club is one example, where Ricky hypothesizes on the future of Noah and Wade's relationships. Won't give away what is being said, but, you can see that Chance tells Ricky to talk to the hand.

Another bonus: The actor's auditions. It was great to see Christian trying out for the part of Noah and Darryl Stephens reading for Ricky's part. For some reason, most of the auditions were shot against a white wall, resulting in overexposed video. You'll find it either endearing cinema verite or just plain ole ingratiating. Still, it's a clever bonus and the collection is more than a value for the money.

Finally. Remember when we wondered why would two men need a strap on?

Noah's Arc: The Complete First Season answers that question. Below the jump, the lovely and talented Trey (Gregory Kieth) shows off to his boyfriend Rod Alex (Rodney Chester) what he found at the mall.

    ALREADY EXCITED!

This is cool and I'm glad that PATRIK-IAN POLK was smart enough to document so much of the creation of the show. No matter what people think of the show, good or bad, it is historic!!!!

    Rod,
You are the MAN! Can't wait to get mine. (in the irritating "Brandy" voice) I'm excited!

In your opinion, was any of the "too-hot-for-television" footage any worse than stuff we saw on "Sex and the City?" They pushed that envelope every week!

mmmm mmmm mmmm...dayum. Nate Adams. He needed to be on this show longer than a few minutes.....

    saw his myspace page...too bad:

    Orientation: Straight

"Sex`and the City" was on HBO, a paid premium service. they can get away with more than Logo or Bravo. That's why when "SATC" moved to TBS, the "sex" was taken out of "the city"!

I love the way you reviewed this DVD. I actually bought it online about a month ago when VH1 was offering it and it quickly became one of my favorites. You're right - the extras alone make it a terrific bargain! Christian Vincent - yummy, but 'top man' - hardly...lol

After sitting up all night watching the special rerun of the first season that had trivia and some snippets of the DVD inclusions - I definately want to get me a copy. I have CLEARED MY CALENDAR for this evening no doubt! Season two!

    Hot stuff!

ff, don't let that "orientation:straight" fool you. If sex is all you want, you can still get that no matter what they say their orientation is. Shoot, I'd estimate out of the three hundred plus men I've been with, maybe twenty would call themselves "gay". Now that I think about it, that's rather sad, aint it? I mean, the total number of men period, not their phoney-ass orientation. I kinda' up in age, darlin'.

is jensen atwood and christian vincent gay in reall life or are they straigt
