· Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has taken the first step toward a possible 2008 White House bid by forming a presidential exploratory committee. Giuliani gained national prominence in the weeks after 9/11 and has long been considered a serious candidate, although he is pro-choice, pro-gay rights and supports gun control. That might not sit well with the Republican base
so look for him to flip-flop in the months to come.
· Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) has decided not to seek the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2008. His candidacy was always considered a long shot and the Democratic sweep of the Hill made this an easy decision. However, Feingold was the only candidate "who was 100% in favor of marriage equality," notes Pam Spaulding. "His voice in the debate would have ensured that a sane, honest discussion on equality would have occurred."
