Mary Cheney, the lesbian daughter of the Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne, delivers a baby boy. Samuel David Cheney was born to Mary and her partner Heather Poe, at 9:46 a.m. ET. Reports say he weighed in at 8 lbs., 6 ounces. Attend the digital baby shower HERE.
Under Virginia law, Mary’s partner “will have no legal relationship with her child. She can’t adopt as a second parent. She won’t have her name on the birth certificate.” Perhaps Mary and Heather want to move to Maryland or the District of Columbia where the laws are friendlier. It's probably a shorter commute to her meetings at the Republican National Committee.
Meanwhile, as states such as Colorado move forward to allow gay men and lesbians the right to adopt children, President George Bush has not stated if he supports gay adoption.
