Pro-Gay, Black Pastor Questions Candidates on Marriage

2007_07_18_pastor

While some black pastors such as Bishop Harry Jackson adopt right-wing talking points to oppose extending hate crimes and non-discrimination laws to gays, not every pastor is buying into religious-based discrimination.

Such as the Rev. Reggie Longcrier. The pastor of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church in Hickory, North Carolina submits a question to CNN's You Tube Debate and asks Sen. John Edwards on the use of his background in the Southern Baptist Church to oppose same-sex marriage. "Religion was once used to justify slavery, segregation and women not being allowed to vote," the pastor says, comparing this to the current controversy over gay rights and same-sex marriage.

The questions isn't for Edwards per se, but, for all the candidates or anyone who is using religion to condone discrimination. The fact that it comes from a black pastor in a small North Carolina town is simply brilliant.
