Mercedes Benz Fashion Week officially wrapped over the weekend but the memories are eternal. One of the highlights was the appearance of über-gorgeous James Todd Smith III (aka LL Cool J) front and center at several leading shows. The rapper slash actor adds a new hyphen to his skill set—designer—after launching his own Todd Smith brand of upmarket street wear.
LL spent the week checking out the competition. Above and below, Mr. Smith at the John Varvatos show.
"It’s interesting to me to see what people are doing, what they’re inspired by," he said backstage at Varvatos. "I mean, I can’t make a great record without listening to everything that’s out there, and I can’t make a great line without caring about fashion. You’ve gotta study everything."
Studying everything, LL took his loveliness to Z Zegna—the brand new youngish brand by Ermengildo Zegna—and his front row appearance caught the business reporters at CNBC by surprise: "The front row looked like a GQ ad of male retailers and stylists all done up in their best Zegna shirts and suits. L.L. Cool J stood out among them in his sleeveless black tshirt, baseball cap and diamond stud earrings."
Here is LL clowning backstage at Z Zegna with Alessandro Sartori, designer of the collection. Impressive reviews for the debut of Z Zegna and LL stamped the sweaters with his own brand of approval: "They're hot."
Speaking of hot, the legendary LL guns were on display backstage at Z Zegna ...

Wow, he still looks good! I remember him when I was a little kid in Queens and I used to see him driving around in his jeep; right after a little song called "Pink Cookies In A Plastic Bag Getting Crushed By Buildings"
