Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama usurps Sen. Hillary Clinton on her home turf and attracts an estimated 20,000 supporters to a rally in New York City's Greenwich Village. Speaking at the landmark arch in Washington Square Park, the Illinois senator struck all the right notes to acknowledge his supporters of all races and sexual identities.
"You've got young people and old people," he said. "You've got poor folk and not-so-poor folk. You've got blacks, whites, Asians, Native Americans. You've got gay and straight. You've got people with disabilities. You've got Democrats and independents, and, yes, you've even got some Republicans."
Meanwhile. The Obama and Clinton campaigns continue to jockey for black votes, and, continuing a trend reported on Rod 2.0 some months ago, Clinton holds a slight advantage. Earlier today, both candidates appeared at the annual legislative conference of the Congressional Black Caucus and "with the backing of California Rep. Diane Watson this week, the Clinton campaign counts 13 supporters in the 43-member group to Obama's 12. Although technically since Obama is a member and supporting himself, one could say they are tied."
Polls show black voters deeply divided with "Obama winning among younger and male" demos and Clinton running stronger with older black women and men.
