Earlier this week, Rod 2.0 reported the skyrocketing poll numbers in Iowa for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the social conservative Republican presidential candidate. Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister well known for creationist and fundamentalist views, tells the crowds in Iowa the rising poll numbers are God's work.
Frank Lockwood at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Bible Belt Blogger has transcript and video:
"There's only one explanation for it and it's not a human one. It's the same power that helped a little boy with two fish and five loaves to feed a crowd of 5,000 people..." he paused as the crowd broke into wild applause. "And that's the only way that our campaign could be doing what it's doing, and I'm not being facetious nor am I trying to be trite. There literally are thousands of people across the country who are praying that a little will be much..."
This is not the first time the anti-gay social conservative has suggested the Almighty prefers conservative Republican candidates. At a Republican Governors Association Dinner in 2004, Think Progress reports Huckabee "took the stage and began to deliver remarks when his cell phone rang. He took the phone out of his pocket and proceeded to have a conversation with God about President Bush’s reelection."
