"Live! From New York! It's Hillary Clinton" on "Saturday Night Live"

2008_03_03_clinton_snl

Bravo to Sen. Hillary Clinton for dropping off the campaign trail Saturday to make on "Saturday Night Live," providing an "editorial response" to a skit that skewered the news media as biased toward Sen. Barack Obama and poked fun at her 11 straight losses to Obama. Showing the lighter side of Hillary worked in New Hampshire and should have been introduced many months ago.

The appearance with doppelganger Amy Poehler was amusing—especially Poehler's impersonation of Clinton's laugh—but the cameo by "Law & Order: SVU" actor Vincent D'Onforio was the piece de resistance. Clinton referenced the "SNL" skit in the anti-climactic "Meet Me in Ohio" debate—it did not come across well—but the upside is that the cable news networks and print media are finally questioning and evaluating their coverage.

Another good moment was Poehler/Clinton describing her strategy for taking down the special interests by being "so annoying, so pushy, so grating, so bossy and shrill, with a personality so unpleasant, that at the end of the day the special interests will have to go, ‘Enough! We give up! Life is too short to deal with this awful woman!’" That's a great analysis spoof of Clinton's branding as a "fighter."

The SNL writer who wrote the debate spoofs describes himself as an Obama supporter. If the campaign continues into April and Pennsylvania, which it probably will, it's fair to assume "SNL" will go after both candidates equally.

I personally thought after all er criticisms of the media they were just appeasing her to shut her the hell up. and throughout the entire skit that was the only thing on my mind

Eh... she was okay.

But if she'd shown up wearing a turban...

Andy Niable, I don't think Hillary Clinton or her campaigb had anything to do with the turban story. The photos have been online for more than a year.

But if you feel comfortable believing Matt Drudge ...

C. Baptiste, who was "trying to appease" Hillary? The writers at Saturday Night Live? No, they've been taking her side throughout this but will probably switch it up next week.

She was fine, it was just a brief comedy bit. Geez, lighten up, do some people hate Hillary so much that they can't even laugh at her laughing at herself?

Henry, did I say she was responsible for it?

But maybe we should consider who would be easier for SNL to have for a target of comedy? Hmm....couldn't that maybe be why they are hoping for Hillary? Might Obama present certain comic challenges and sensitivities?
