John McCain's "Family Values" Do Not Include Gay Adoptions
Last week, bloviating right-wing talking head and Weekly Standard Editor Fred Barnes said Republican presidential wannabe John McCain "is going to have to" start gay-bashing to "energize the right" or "he'll lose." The memo was received. Over the weekend, the Arizona senator shared his views against gay adoption and same sex marriage with The New York Times.
Mr. McCain, who with his wife, Cindy, has an adopted daughter, said flatly that he opposed allowing gay couples to adopt. “I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption,” he said.
But he declined to take a specific position when asked whether only evolution should be taught in public schools. “It’s up to the school boards,” he said. “That’s why we have local control over education.” Mr. McCain has said he believes in evolution.
Many social conservatives strenuously oppose California’s decision to allow same-sex marriage. But Mr. McCain, who also opposes same-sex marriage, has always said that the issue is up to the states, and in the interview he said he would stick to that position as president even if California chose to continue allowing gay marriage after putting the matter to a statewide vote in November. “I respect the right of the states to make those decisions,” he said.
That last part isn't exactly right, McCain recently came in support of the California marriage amendment, but, what are a few facts in the way of a glowing portrayal of McCain as a state's rights conservative.
To recap: California, the nation's largest state, now has gay marriage and the divorced and remarried John McCain is against that. Congress is about to hold hearings on ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and McCain is against that, too. More states are allowing adoptions by gay couples, and, McCain doesn’t "believe in gay adoption." McCain also is against ENDA and much of the other gay agenda.
But! But! McCain did meet with the Log Cabin Republicans! He was proud to receive their endorsement! McCain really isn't as bad as Bush!

That's exactly right. The conservatives believes twice married, divorced, adulterated McCain and his pill popping wife are better parents than upper educated, respectable gays.

I guess that means it's time to take all the adopted children away from single parents.
