McCain "Clarifies" Position on Adoption: "Maybe" Gay Parents Are Better Than Orphanage

Another week, another flip-flop for John McCain. After the Republican presidential heir apparent told The New York Times that although he and his wife adopted a child from Bangladesh, he "flatly" opposed allowing gay couples to adopt children, the campaign now issues a clarification. McCain communications director Jill Hazelbaker says the candidate believes the issue should be decided by the states and such adoptions should not be subject to a federal ban.
"Sen. McCain's expressed his personal preference for children to be raised by a mother and a father wherever possible. However, as an adoptive father himself, McCain believes children deserve loving and caring home environments, and he recognizes that there are many abandoned children who have yet to find homes. John McCain believes that in those situations that caring parental figures are better for the child than the alternative."
Gay rights groups called foul over the absurdity of McCain's position on state's rights—pretending to take no position on gay marriage in California but taking a strong position against adoption. Only one state, Florida, outlaws adoptions by gays, which have become commonplace in much of the nation. But the backpedaling is to be expected from a candidate who needs moderate and independent voters.
Meanwhile, the anti-gay social conservative base is outraged McCain states the obvious, ie the federal government can do little to prevent gay adoptions . The family values homo-bigots at the Family Research Council, led by gay conspiracy theorist Tony Perkins, sent an email blasting McCain's muddled position and says the candidate should "emphasize the need to rebuild the natural family." The "Family" Research Council probably prefer the Mitt Romney position: Even a dead parent is better than a gay one.

wow...
same shit, different week. this is a growing thread in the mccain kaflamma, no?
backtracking on true beliefs and feelings in order to win those crucial votes needed to become president in november so he eff up the country even more...
just like obama-la and his fantastically "subersive" faith based initiative program...
i wish these too sycophants would just ante up and get real...americans would give a damn about the elections in november if both candidates just stopped the double speak and start speaking the truth...
a rare concept these days, but a needed one nonetheless.

McCain is correct. The gays do not need to adopt. 'Nuff said.

Not quite ’nuff, Veronica.
I believe that psychological testing should be administered to every adult in the country. If the testing shows that an adult is likely to teach bigotry to a child she might raise, that adult would be prohibited from adopting children. Even further, if that adult has a child, that child must, by law, be given up for adoption to someone who will teach the child how to think lovingly.
The last thing we need in our society is for the cancer of hatred to spread any further than it already has. As a cancer victim yourself, you’ll agree, I’m sure.
