
Arkansas State Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney was shot and killed after three shots were fired at party headquarters.
Gwatney was critically wounded after the shooting and a statement issued by Bill and Hillary Clinton, confirmed their longtime friend whose body is seen above, died at the hospital. The blog of the Arkansas Times reports the "suspected shooter was fatally wounded after a chase" and& ; police are trying to confirm "tentative information that the suspect was a former employee of a Gwatney car dealership."
The Times reports the shooter "entered the office and asked to see the party chairman. He walked past a worker who tried to detain him and the shots were heard shortly after.& ; The man ran out and drove off."
Gov. Mike Beebe, who is a Democrat, was reportedly flying to Northwest Arkansas when the shooting occurred and ordered the plane to return to Little Rock. The Democratic National Committee and Chairman Howard Deam also issued a statement on the incident.
