Evora jumped a best of 17.67 meters in a wet Bird's Nest stadium. That was five centimeters ahead of Phillips Idowu of Britain, who recently posed nude in the new advertising campaign for Powerade and was hailed as one of Britain's best hopes to win the gold in track and field. Leevan Sanders of the Bahamas took bronze with 17.59m.
