Ku Klux Klan Sends Death Threats to Black Gay Kansas Couple

Only two weeks after moving into their apartment, a black gay Kansas couple receive a hateful and terrifying welcome. Death threats courtesy of the local Ku Klux Klan.

The couple, who say they are in a long-term relationship, moved into the Overland Park apartment complex in June "never had any problems." But after moving into a larger apartment in the same complex in late September, the couple received a flier with the image of a hooded Klansman and the message "Nigger Fags, Leave Or Die."

Two of the hateful threats were left for the couple, one on their door and another on their car. The police, predictably, have few leads.

KCTV-5 interviews (video) Yvette Peterson, their downstairs neighbor, who is outraged. "This was disgusting. I have only known them for three weeks but love them. Whatever someone wants to do ... that is their own business, their own life."

Overland Park is a fairly large and well-to-do suburb of Kansas City, KS. Unfortunately race relations seem to be an issue, such as in 2007 when a local school district had problems with a student displaying a noose. Despite the Klan activity, the town is consistently ranked as one of the top places to live in the country by Money and Forbes. The Overland Park black gay couple say they "may have to move again." Overland Park might be one of the best places to live in the country, but not if you're black and openly gay.

Sad... I've went through a similar issues with religious people living across from me.

On a separate note:

I'm (blk male) on a popular gay site and I deal with racist bigot-white guys. They get mad at me because I don't respond right away to their comments/wanting to hook up. I received 2 of them just within the last 30 days. Also had the nerve to say "I'm going to tell everyone(in a particular city) that I was a problem."

There is many hateful white gay guys but they so badly want to get d!cked down by a black man.

I've become less than thrilled about hooking up with white guys in the major city I live in.

Understand, I like all races. I fvck all colors. White guys are usually the easiest whores.

This is sad because Overland Park is a nice place to live, work, and shop. I am sure this is some prank by a hateful person. Not everyone there is like that. If it was me I wouldn't move I would live on as if it didn't bother me. Now I would be cautious of my surroundings. I hope it will work out for those two.

No, there is no hate crimes statute in Kansas. This I know by being beat up while being called "f*ggot," when living there. Jumped by three drunk guys. Had to talk the DA into pressing charges. Was fun to cash their checks after I sued them though.

Overland Park is just as racist as any other town. I had to go there several times from DC to the Sprint campus in Overland Park. The residents were sure to let you know you weren't welcome there if you were black. Matter of fact the employees there are 95% white and they were shocked that there were blacks that were intelligent and living very diverse lives in thriving cities so no this is not a shock.
