Louis Smith "Becomes a Celebrity" After Winning Olympic Bronze
Rod 2.0 fave Louis Smith, the British Olympic gymnast, discovers he has become something of a "celebrity" after winning the bronze for the crown. Interviews, international television appearances ... oh and a featured appearance on Britain's top cooking show. The 19-year-old pommel horse hotness tells the Evening Telegraph this was the "best year of his life."
"Not so long ago I was struggling to pay for a new gearbox in my car and really struggling to get by.
"Now,
after winning the bronze medal in Beijing, I seem to have become a bit
of a celebrity and I am loving it. Appearing on A Question of Sport was
amazing for me. I used to watch the show as a kid and to be up there
with the likes of Phil Tuffnell and Matt Dawson was a lot of fun.
"I
also had a great time on Ready, Steady, Cook – Ainsley Harriott is a
legend and I had a great time. I am not sure how good I was though.
"We
made spicy noodles with duck in plum sauce but I had a fair bit of help
so when I try it at home I am not sure it will taste quite as good. But
I have promised my mum I will cook it for her, so we will have to see."
Smith also was a presenter at the MOBO Awards with singer and Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon. The television broadcast was one of the UK's highest rated shows of the year. "I remember seeing her (Alesha) on television singing and it was weird standing on stage with her presenting an award," Smith says. "We didn't go to the after-party, as we had an early start the next morning. It's such good fun."
The new fame couldn't happen to a better person. Louis Smith won bronze in Beijing in the pommel horse—becoming the nation's first individual Olympic medalist in 100 years and only the second black male gymnast to win an Olympic medal.

Having seen some cooking shows with him on BBC America, I'm sure Miss Ainsley Harriott loved having Smith in the kitchen (and wanted to have him in every room in the house!:)
