I thought there would be more on the Black talk radio and sports stations but not really. I think some people just don't want to believe it could be true especially because the man suing is white and Jewish.

Maybe if it were another brotha people would be more into it and talk about the down low or being closeted.

I don't know what happened but something apparently did. Given behavior of all of the ball players, I don't put anything anything past them. Rich and famous people tend to treat staff like they are worthless.

Derrick from Philly

If the chauffer had been a pretty white boy--maybe? But that sad-looking creature. I don't think so....don't THINK so.

How come all these chauffers that claim black man sexually harass them look so tired. Remember that lunatic fool that claimed State Senator Obama had sex with him 20 years ago? He's lucky it wasn't George Bush he made that acusaation against. He'd be sittin' in Guantanamo by Tuesday the 20th.

...wish I'd been Mister Curry's chauffer.

Paul R

Does it never end for the Knicks?

The District Mother

Just because you're "straight" with kids doesn't mean that you can't harrass someone of the same sex. There are many closeted sports figures and in Hollywood.

This happens.

Tandio

OMG, Derrick you are talking about Larry Sinclair. He seemed very disturbed and his story had so many holes in it you could drive a truck through it.

The accusations were from several years ago, not 20. Obama was in law school 20 years ago. I wouldn't put a few bumps of coke and a BJ past many men, straight or gay, but I think Obama (and Eddy) could have done better. (smile)

A. Martinez

I don't think sexual harassment (or even rape) is necessarily because the person can't get a date. It's about control and domination. Athletes are used to getting their way and many have been accused of rape and harassment. Maybe Eddy Curry was just trying to demean his employee.

Baltimore Femme

Hmm. If the white boy were cute or average, maybe. If he were a brother, absolutely I would be in arms. But this seems kind of sketchy.

Tommy Ross

Let me be the first to address the 300 pound elephant in the room.

Eddy Curry is FUGLY.

Earl FF

I'm sorry but this is too much and Derrick makes a great point. Eddy Curry ain't no model, but his accuser is even more fugly. Why do these jacked up white men always accuse successful brothers of stalking and harrassing them?

Seems like they are projecting much nahmean?

Ali

@ Earl:

As opposed to the many cases of beautiful black or white women who have accused athletes (Kobe, Mike Tyson, Iverson, OJ) of rape or assault or worse?

Man, why am I not really shocked people are automatically siding with the celebrity? I just thought as black gay men we would at least have some insight about the down low or racism or harassment.

I don't know what happened. Something did, nothing did or maybe something in between. But I'm not about to get all pious and defend a millionaire baller who is sketchy and hires ex-cons to drive around his wife and children.

Ian

Derick's comment had me laugh out loud! True.

I tend to agree with Eric too, why is this not getting more at attention? I didn't listen to Tom Joyner and them this morning or the Ride yesterday, but you figure some words would've been said? Behind every story, there's an element of truth.

Brien

How, how do these scragly mofos get these types of jobs? These 'brothers' would trust an ex-con to be close to and hire them than an average 'brother' who just needs a job. I'm this close on giving up on the race!!!

alicia banks

the nba and the nfl are filled with married macho DL gay gaybashers...

anything is possible...especially involving amoral jocks...

we shall soon see...

Ali,

interesting and appropriate comment.

I suppose many of us still find it hard to believe that the same sexual dominance & humiliation that a man inflicts on a woman can also be done between men--unless they are in prison. I mean, couldn't the chauffer just quit his job? Why would he stay and endure such humiliation?

My comment about the physical appearance of the "victim"? Shallow & short-sighted? Yes, but not in this case. When the accusation seems so ridiculous, one is tempted to comment with cynicism and incredulity--which often results in ridicule towards the accuser.

Remember how black audiences felt about the sad-looking white gal accuser in "To Kill A Mockingbird", or the trashy accusers in "The Scottsboro Boys" case. In this case, it's even more unbelievable, and the accuser has no credibility.

If they were in prison--maybe? But in a situation where the chauffeur could have quit; in a situation where the chauffeur has a "seedy" past--the chauffeur's story is like a skit from Saturday Night Live.

Hell, I would've "touched it" and went on about my chauffeur's business.

Chris Cruz

Derrick, I'm a little surprised at your comments. But then I'm not.

Some of these comments sound like we are at a ghetto beauty shop. Men don't harass or intimidate other men unless they are in jail? That would be news to the many men who have been harassed or pressured at their jobs. I have had bosses who called me ethnic or racial names or been spiteful. I also had one boss who made excessive personal demands on my time because he knew I was gay and I was eventually quit. And of course received a bad recommendation. Maybe that's why people don't leave, who knows.

Who knows what happened? And why should the chauffeur's background have any bearing on the claim? His PRISON BACKGROUND WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO BE HIRED so why is it a problem now? I'm questioning why a pro athlete who is MARRIED with CHILDREN hires an ex con to be around them 24/7/365.

I am very disappointed in these comments. We see all these athletes acting like hoodrats ... RAPING women, killing people, SHOOTING people, killing CHAUFFEURS, CHOKING COACHES ... and you call these allegations RIDICULOUS? I wouldn't put it past any of these ghetto boyz who are instant millionaires.

Baltimore Femme

I want to add to what "Mark" said.

In high school I was teased and harrassed (sp?) nonstop by more masculine men and athletes. I also attended a HBCU (Grambling State) and the same thing, maybe even more. Some of the teasing and harassment was sexual but I am sure many of these boys and men were "not" gay or bisexual they were just trying to embarrass (sp?) and harrass me.

The same thing happens in the corporate world. And we know it happens in entertainment and sports. I also know for a FACT that one member of the New Jersey Nets is DL and has been with a very good friend of mine several times. I know because I have been to dinner with them.

So I find it so very interesting how when these types of things happen many black people get very protective of the celebrity or athlete. I am very surprised someone black or gay would think this story is "impossible." We don't know the details but it might be unlikely but it is not impossible. And all of us black gay men and queens KNOW closeted black men everywhere, from the boardrooms to the churches.

And when we have pro football players carrying guns and charged with murder or assault, I find it very shocking someone would not believe this story is possible.

I will keep my options open and not cast judgment. But i bet you it will be settled like all those other harassment cases.

Mel Smith

I don't believe the allegations at all.

FREELEO

WOW! I mean WOW! I'm speechless.

Joseph

Yes, the allegations are totally unbelievable. There are no gay or DL athletes, and a pro baller would never, ever point a gun at someone or intimidate an employee. /snark

Freddy

Some of these comments are curious but not unlike those at black straight gossip blogs.

I would not be at all surprised if there were some ball players on the down low or all out gay. But it seems the "allegations" are that the exposure and propositions were more humiliation or freaky.

Being forced to throw out his j/o towels (I don't want to use the street phrase)?? That just sounds ignorant.

Your comments were edited. No profanity, please. RM

Derrick from Philly

YES, yes, yes. Bullying and harassment are a part of many gay men's bad memories--especially those of us who are gender role non-conformist. Please DO NOT put this incident in the same category as what young gay and trans folk go through.

Anything is possible...oh, yes, that's true. But after 300 years of this eternal accusation of the "bestial black male predator" it is only natural for black folks first reaction to this story to be "hear we go again."

I was sexually assaulted in October 1973 in the back of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Rectory in North Philly. It was not fun. That memory (and the continuing humiliation that goes with it) does not stop me from questioning the "victim" when his story doesn't make sense. For three years he endured this treatment, then started trying to get money from Curry and Curry's associates/friends. Oh, please.

And Mark,

no, one doesn't have to be "hot" to be a victim of sexual assault/harassment...no. And they also don't have to be "hot" to be a damn lie trying to extort money.

Chris

If he did do it, his comments were stupid: Jews would never be allowed in the KKK, certainly never mind being grandmaster!

Rowan

@ Derrick

So I guess you don't believe in the concept of Stockholm Syndrome??

I was in a really bad relationship that I'm sure you would look you nose up into why I stayed and guess what, it wasn't out of LOVE!

It was out of desperation.

It's not cool nor tough. I'm not saying that. It's the path to me...but I can understand having worked with ex-cons how you take the 'chance' you have...

I'm not saying dont' question it but the jokes you and those other posters have said, is just, well, mean.

Scott Poulson-Bryant

Wow.

I had to laugh when I saw this, Rod. The (closeted) gay NBA star in my new novel is a New York Knick. And he did shoot someone, before the book's story actually begins...Maybe I should send a copy to Eddy Curry to write a blurb for the back of it?

LOL

As usual, love your reporting, love your commentary...keep it up, bro.

nahtans

wow... couldnt he see this coming???
