Thanks to Outsports for the heads up. Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones is known as a Renaissance man for his interest in fashion—developing a line of high-end bow ties—and writing movie reviews and commentary. Now the oh-so-handsome footballer will add to his skill set by starring in Dhani Tackles the Globe, a new series on the Travel Channel where "he visits a number of countries and tries his hand at popular local sports."
Travel Channel's micro site says the 6'1, 240 pound footballer will try a number of sports, including surfing in Australia, rugby in England, and, Muay Thai boxing in Thailand. Oh and for those who prefer a some fur with their muscle, thankfully there is apparently a shirtless clause in Jones' contract. Here are a few stills of the boxing episode and there is shirtless (and hairy) video at Outsports.
Interested in Dhani Jones' other prime assets? The episode where Dhani plays rugby in England looks very promising ...

What a man, what a man.
That "fur" is a beautiful thing indeed. Thank you for waking me in the middle of the day!
Posted by: BGC | 24 February 2009 at 14:16
That picture in the middle is exactly why I will Tivo anytime Dhani is on the tube! Man he is phine.

sorry, i have never heard of dahani jones but you best believe i am doing a google right now and will set my dvr. that is a whole lotta man.
Posted by: Eddy B | 24 February 2009 at 14:31
He was a Philadelphia Eagle for about 2 years (after leaving the dreaded NY Giants)...well, he was never your typical jock, and not anti-gay. Just like Michael Strayhan, he didn't respond to rumors of being gay with hateful comments about gay people.
Wait a minute...maybe those damn NY Giants are a breeding ground for intelligent football players. No, nevermind, I forgot about Plaxico.

I LOVE THIS DUDE!
He's sexy as a summer day at the beach.
He's smart and stylish, funny and self-assured while sometimes self-effacing.
He's more than just an athlete; he's a gentleman and a scholar.
THAT'S SEXY!
Rod, you did it today man! It's in my Top 5 Athletes List! JUST A BEAUTIFUL BLACK MAN!
MY DVR IS PLEASED TO RECEIVE THE NAME DHANI JONES! WONDERFUL!
Posted by: TheRevKev | 24 February 2009 at 14:37
Derrick is right. Dhani has always been diplomatic and courteous...I don't beleive those rumors, I think sometimes women and other players start those rumors about any black jock who isn't ghetto or a thug. That is the problem with our people, we are afraid of anything that isn't in a "box"...
I wish him the best with this show. Travel Channel is an interesting choice. It has one of my favorite shows No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.

ROD, IF YOU NEED SOME ATHLETIC INSPIRATION, I CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH A FEW NAMES!
I'm glad you are pleased! Go ahead and shoot them my way. I thought Dhani's new show would interest some people. Plus, we never see enough thickness and hair on this blog...or so I am told, lol. -RM

Dhani is the 'epitome' of the sexy. Nuff said.
Posted by: Strong Island | 24 February 2009 at 15:21
Umm yes. Just like how I like 'em. Tall, thick and with some seasoning!
I will be watching this show and will program it into the TiVo. What night does it come on?
And as always Rod, you have your pulse on everything, mauh!
Posted by: Baltimore Femme | 24 February 2009 at 15:28
I saw the promo for this last night and nearly fell out of bed! He is so phyne and completely contradicts the 'dumb jock' stereotype of football players. I will be glued to my set every week for this...
PS: You're right "we never see enough thickness and hair on this blog" LOL!

Almost choked on my pork chops, Rod!
That man is sinfully HOT!

To quote a line from The Color Purple, "I would drink his bathwater."
Posted by: Chris | 24 February 2009 at 20:58
i don't know chris. he's fine and all but he plays in the mud...LOL
Posted by: FREELEO | 24 February 2009 at 21:08

Oh boy I can't wait! I've been a fan of Dhani Jones for a long time. And the word everyone is thinking of to describe him is bohemian.
Posted by: Dluv | 24 February 2009 at 22:58
Finally, here's someone truly up my alley.
But all this time, I was hoping that only I felt this way and that I didn't have any competition. But now I see that half the men on this blog are ogling the same ones I am.
Rod, you seem to have struck a chord. A heavenly chord.
Posted by: Jim | 24 February 2009 at 23:22
Dhani is so phyne, I'm gonna digitize him twice. Fresh pepper, sir? Yes please, keep on grinding. Eau-la-la.
Posted by: Spitzeroni | 05 March 2009 at 15:22
Rod,
I really want to thank you for posting about Dhani Jones and his travels around the globe.
Yes, this brother is as fine as a great glass of Merlot or a night with Natalie. But, as a producer, I am so proud of this show. It's adventurous, smart and so exquisitely well shot. It's a gorgeous show with a gorgeous man and so well executed in this journey of the subject matter.
There will be some things being booted off of my DVR to make room for the permanent place that this show and its host will have on my machine.
Rod, the level of research that you do--in entertainment, in sports, in music and in news--to bring us to the next level (thus 2.0) is so amazing and I'm really grateful to you that you do this in the midst of working and being worked by tragedy (we are all praying for your mom's healthy and speedy recovery from that dog attack) is so appreciated!
Thank you for always being on your game. Don't let the haters get you down...LET THEM GET YOU UP!
Maybe 3.0 is on the way...a book, a magazine. THE NEXT LEVEL MUST ALWAYS STAY ON YOUR HORIZON! It's mine in 2009!
Love and Grace!
