A charismatic black Connecticut church is under investigation by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families after posting a controversial video on YouTube which shows members performing an exorcism of a gay teen's "homosexual demons.
The disturbing video shows leaders of the Bridgeport-based, non-denominational Manifested Glory Ministries in a violent scene reminiscent of The Exorcist. "Prophet" Patricia McKinney is seen screaming at a 16-year-old boy and demanding "homosexual demons" to leave. The video—since taken down on YouTube by the church—"continues for 20 minutes with the boy in a near seizure, even vomiting." The so-called "prophet" yells at the teen: "Right now in the name of Jesus, I call the homosexuality, right now in the name of Jesus."
FOX 61 reported on the video last night. "Prophet Patricia McKinney and her husband, church overseer Kelvin McKinney have a weekly radio show. She wasn't much interested in talking, telling Fox 61's Laurie Perez, 'Don't be following, I'm telling you no.' The only hint of a comment was her saying the ritual shown in the video is just one part of their ministry."
The Associated Press confirms the teen is 16 years old.
AFTER THE JUMP, via Rod 2.0 reader Jared (Twitter: @Jardoism), watch the disturbing FOX 61 report of where a gay teen, who is more than three times likely to attempt suicide than his straight peers, is subjected to a medieval ritual. Oh and please ask "Prophet" McKinney to cite the exact scripture where Jesus exorcised homosexual "demons" from children. <<crickets>>

I saw this on TV yesterday and what I found interesting about what that preacher kept saying was "I command you to leave" not "god" but he, the preacher, commanded it.
I have always believed religion is for the weak minded and acts like this only make me become more entrenched in that belief.

Yeah WWJD indeed? He wouldnt do this BS. These black churches are out of their minds ...

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!
homosexuality is NOT a CHOICE! Being a "homo-phobe" a CHOICE!
Posted by: Macy | 25 June 2009 at 13:23
Yeah i heard about this. Finally I get to see it.
Religion is a crutch for people who don't have faith in their self.
Hopefully, the teen will seek out other avenues of that are positive not demeaning.
Str8 people always kill me... they think they know what it mean to be gay. All they do is take stereotype/what they've heard and inflate it.

When will the Bible thumping homophobes ever learn? Sexual orientation is NOT a choice and Christians are dead wrong in using the Bible to justify their position just like they were wrong in using it to justify slavery.

Notice this is happening right now in Brdgeport, Connecticut, only minutes from NYC. CT has gay marriage and is among the best places for gays to live.
But all that doesn't matter if you are gay, black and/or Latino and if you live in the hood (which Bridgeport very much is). You might as well live down south.
Posted by: Faison | 25 June 2009 at 13:32
gays have been persecuted since the beginning of recorded history. we have been abused, beaten, dragged behind pick up trucks in the south, and even killed for our sexuality. what makes this group of collossal crap for brains idiots think you can 'exorcise' it away? i mean really, people have been gay in areas and times when being so was a death sentence and they believe that a little flopping around and yelling is going to turn someone straight. honestly what is the fascination with who/where other ppl have sex

Yeah, I've seen this. With me it wasn't an exorcism, it was a Harlem preacher annoiting my head with olive oil and praying it out. That happened over 20 years ago.
Then I walked downtown and through central park. The cure lasted all of...well, 45 minutes to an hour. :)

WHO MADE HER A PROPHET??
IF SHE WAS A PROPHET SHE SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE STATE INVESTIGATION INTO HER CHURCH!!!
Posted by: Ras | 25 June 2009 at 13:41
We REALLY need to exorcise the black church.
Posted by: DE | 25 June 2009 at 13:53
This is tragic. That kid's chances of committing suicide just got ratcheted up even further. No doubt these wicked zealots would blame that on the devil as well. Why do so many 'Christians' root their practices in the disturbingly archaic practices of the Old Testament and ignore Jesus?
Posted by: Tim | 25 June 2009 at 14:08
@ Chitown:
I went through this several times myself!! My aunt and uncle took me to our elders and deacons in teh Church of God in Christ and my father, who was a pastor DID THIS TO ME!!!
Sorry but this make me soo sick
I wonder if it would have been okay to exorcise demons that were heterosexual, bigoted and conservative?

I am not someone who cries at the drop of a hat, but I'm crying as I write this. These church folk need to be thrown under the jail. And what about his parents? Who is there to protect this boy? Someone needs to be an advocate for this child because that church should be sued so he can get all the help that he needs. Some prominent litigation lawyer needs to step to the plate and take this case on. I can't believe what I just saw. I agree with what the advocate for gay youth said about them murdering his soul. It couldn't have been expressed any better than that. The sheer horror that boy must have endured is unimaginable. It will take a long time for him to recover -- if he ever does. This is sick beyond all sickness. I believe in God with all my heart, but it's times like this that make me question. You look all around the world and see how religion is used to oppress and suppress people. Maybe atheists have it right after all. I know, I know. I can't give in to that type of thinking. But sometimes I have doubts.

I know this is not funny, but I did laugh at the video because its so ridiculous.
I hope one day people will begin to see how foolish they are. These folks are NOT doing God's work.

Can you say "Assault" and "Endangering the Welfare of a Minor"? Where are the police and district attorney?
Posted by: Tim | 25 June 2009 at 14:29
@ Tim
These fools will chalk it up as religious freedom.
Posted by: Ravenback | 25 June 2009 at 14:38
Now, are these child abusers "House Negroes" or "Field Negroes"?
I don't think that Dr King, Mrs King, Bayard Rustin, A. Phillip Randolf, Roy Wilkins, Dorothy Height, Rev. Joseph Lowry, Julian Bond, Andrew Young, Ralph Abernathy, John Lewis and others would approve of this type of torture of a child. When Malcolm X gave his famous 1965 speech on "House Negroes vs Field Negroes"--who was he comparing House Negroes to?
I know I've waited a week to bring this up, and my comment may be inappropriate for this topic, but this has been on mind since Monday.

@Derrick from Philly
Welcome back! :)
PS. You know I know the answer to that question but...try to let it go. Please.
Posted by: Chitown Kev | 25 June 2009 at 14:48
@ Derrick
No, they're "Evil Negroes".
Posted by: Ravenback | 25 June 2009 at 15:00
Derrick, what do you mean?
You talking about the White House cocktail party?
The comparison was about Jonathan Capehart and LGBT "leaders" going to a cocktail party (=guest list not shared, guests won't say who they are) telling us what our priorities "should" be and what "we" needed to do. While they live in condos, draw huge salaries, have great health benefits and sip cocktails with the White House staff...
It was NOT about Obama being the house negro, if that's what you are saying. IIRC that is what Malcolm X said about MLK, but that comparison was about LGBT "leaders" versus the "community". -RM

not sure what this other conversation is about ... back on topic with the video.
yes very sad and very scary . but unfortunately very typical of many Pentecostal, COGIC and Seventh day Adventist churches ... i have see it with my own eyes several times. not sure how effective it is. doubt it is effective at all, as someone mentioned earlier

Y'all need to get ready, because it's about to go down
(putting on breastplate of righteousness).
I am sick of quietly sitting still while this kind of hate is done in the name of the church and more and more people and souls are lost because some ignorant fool of a "preacher" doesn't know the Word of God!
(making sure i am firmfooted in the gospel of peace)
I'm tired of fighting solo when they keep going so low!
(fastening the belt of truth around waist)
I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to expose the lies, deceit, foolishness, failings and fallacies in the church that are costing good young men and women, people who love God just as they are their lives.
(picking up my shield of faith!)
I AM MAD AS HELL
I AM MAD AT HELL
AND
I
AM
NOT
GOING
TO
TAKE
THIS
ANYMORE!
That 16 year old's soul is in jeopardy and they are treating who he is like some thing in the wild. There is hitting and punching and flogging with someone and this young man and to walk around and ACT LIKE this changed him OR they will DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!
The "evangelist" wouldn't talk to the reporter and spoke to her like she was some common thief. I SWEAR TO GOD, HEAVEN IS GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF VACANCIES because of all of these sanctimonious heathens who do things in the name of the Lord, but don't know the Heart of God OR The Real Truth of Jesus!
"DEPART FROM ME...I KNEW YOU NOT!"
This is making me madder by the second!

DEPART FROM ME...I KNEW YOU NOT!"
Right on Rev Kev.
Nothing sane about what they have done. I think we need to cast out our own demons (which should take approximatel your entire adult life) before we dramatically want to alter othrs.
YUCK.
What those nut bag twistianswant to say is...
"C.mon you homosexual demon - younknow you don't belong in that boy but on top of me."
Posted by: Lang B. | 25 June 2009 at 15:36
Thank you REV KEV! THANK YOU!
I love your insights and intelligence!
I wish that boy knew you!!!!
