Olympic 400m champion and gold medalist LaShawn Merritt gives himself a trip to Berlin for his birthday. Merritt booked his ticket to the upcoming World Championships with a world best-equaling victory at the U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Merritt, who turned 23 on Saturday, defied blustery and tricky winds to win in 44.50sec, matching the season's best time he set May 1. This sets the stage for the 400 meter showdown in Berlin between Merritt and Jeremy Wariner. Gil Roberts (below left) placed second in 44.93, followed by Kerron Clement (below right).
WHEN YOU JUMP, more photos of the birthday boy, who certainly looks fit in the right places.
