James Thrash, veteran wide receiver and one of the finest men in the NFL, was cut by the Washington Redskins and may retire due to an injury.
Thrash has been unable to practice during the offseason because of a neck injury that has him contemplating retirement. He said recently his decision could hinge on whether he would need surgery to keep playing.
"I talked with James and we agreed that this was the best way to proceed," coach Jim Zorn said in a statement. "James can focus on getting healthy and we can move forward. ... Though we had to make this decision, we are confident that James will be involved in some capacity within the Redskins organization."
The 34-year-old Thrash was cut Friday afternoon after failing a team physical. Thrash spent 12 years in the NFL. Nine of those years were with the Redskins in two different stints after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 1997.
Not sure how Thrash failed that physical because he looks in perfect condition in these photos. Good luck to him though. Oh and if he needs help with another physical ...
