(OKAY, SO WHY AM I GIDDY ABOUT BEING THE FIRST TO REPLY ON THIS POST!!!! *skipping*)

I am beyond proud of this story.

Anthony Woods represents the epitome of everything that I believe it will take to shake and force this conversation about who we are and what we look like, not only to our community of Black people, but our community of LGBT people as well.

He is a standing and stellar example of articulation, intelligence, honor and hard-work. I am proud that this young man is working hard to stand out and stand up as a strong and open man. I am honored to click the link that leads me to his campaign that I might be able to contribute.

As with strong brothers and sisters who were such a tribute to our power and purpose during Stonewall and who have stood up and acted out during the 80s and the onslaught of the AIDS pandemic, Officer Woods is a triumph and exactly what we need, as a community, a culture AND a community, to show that we are powerful. When we are able and willing, ready and purposeful in standing up in our truth, the light shines from us and this election is already won for him. No matter the outcome, he has already won.

BUT I INTEND TO HELP IN ANYWAY I CAN!

Bravo, Rod. I am going to post this campaign ad everywhere I can!

ANTHONY WOODS...I AM PROUD OF YOU!

Junior

this story is brilliant. i love anthony williams ... he is like many black gay men, an "over achiever" and forced to face adversity.

excellent comparisons to obama.

i love it, love it!

and thanks for the video and donation link! i am sending 20 bucks right now.

Chitown Kev

I already ponied up a few bucks. I am waiting to hear his policy positions.

They posted about Anthony Woods on huff post last night and I was absolutely infuriated at some of the comments, especially from some of the (presumably) black folks on the site.

Ravenback

I am proud that I will be able to vote for him. I live in the district that he will be running in. I can't wait.

Kevin Perez

What the GOP fears the most!

A black man, not only a black man but a GAY black man and not just a gay black man but educated as well!

Ravenback

Chitown Kev, I wouldn't fret over those comments on Huff Post. I frequent that site, and there are a lot of posers and fakes on that site. I have frequently caught individuals lying and called them out on it. The word reserved for people like them is "troll." Their goal is to instigate and start verbal fights.

@ Kevin Perez:

How true. Read some of the comments at the Daily Beast. Some posters are obsessed with him being a black gay man and his Harvard and West Point pedigree. They fear this could be the next Obama.

libhomo

I hope his politics are more liberal than Obama's.

Kevjack

I am excited that we have a shot to have an SGL representative in Congress. But I hesitate to respond only to his biography. That is not the way that politics should be played. I want to know his positions on the issues (I like what I see so far, but I want to know more, especially on economic issues).

That being said, I hope that Woods becomes a strong SGL (as opposed to gay black) voice in our nations leadership.

Chitown Kev

@Ravenback

yeah, I noticed that some of the usual suspects avoided that thread thread last night which told me that they were mostly trolls.

@Kevjack- Well, yeah, I made a small donation based on the biography alone but I can't do anymore than that until I hear some policy positions.

I handed out voter registration cards while wearing an Obama baseball cap and I would do the same for you if I lived in California. Lots of luck.

Those of you out there in Calif. that do not have funds to contribute but live in a high foot traffic area in his district-to-be can really do him a favor by handing out voter registration cards to get his face out there.

My pitch was "ok, your registered to vote, but how about your 18 year old niece or nephew, cousin maybe?" and that would get them to take a card and hopefully helped register whomever it applied to.
