House of Representatives voted 240 to 179 for a "resolution of disapproval" against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) for his unprecedented heckling of President Obama's speech last week. Only 12 Democrats voted no and 7 Republicans voted yes. 5 Democrats voted "present", rather yes or no.
Roll call is here.
UPDATE: Rep. Barney Frank votes "present". Must be part of that "strategic" thinking we keep hearing about ...

This Man is just pure TRASH!!!

It's more like admonish to be more formally accurate.
No, "admonish" is the verb. This (formally) was called a "Resolution of Disapproval". Read the link or vote tally. -RM

"On a largely party-line vote, the House voted 240 to 179 to ratify a "resolution of disapproval" against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) for interrupting Obama's health-care speech last week before a joint session of Congress."
"A resolution of disapproval is the softest form of punishment that the House administers. ..."
No offense but...you do realize by now that Rod knows all this *ish?

So is there a penalty or is this just a slap on the wrist?
Posted by: Daqwan | 15 September 2009 at 22:16
Daqwan-
Considering the highly polarized Congress, this is simply a slap on the wrist for Wilson...and a great rallying call for other white trash like him.

"...and a great rallying call for other white trash like him."
And? Everything about the Democrats and Obama is a "rallying cry" for Republicans. Or haven't you noticed? Wilson has been fundraising off this since Wednesday. It's not like the Republicans really need a reason not to support Obama or the Democrats.
Or do you suggest more white trash congressmen should call out the president on the floor of the Congress and violate its own rules?

@ Daqwan: It's a slap on the wrist.
@ 1911: The Republicans already have a "rallying cry." His name is Barack Obama. They are obsessed with hating him. Surely you've noticed this? The Hitler signs, the racist code words, the birthers, the guns brought to Obama events ...
Would a Republican Congress allow a Democratic member to do this to a Republican president? Or, do you think we're losing any of the Republican congressmen who were not voting for health care anyway? -RM

OMG! The dems spent the last eight years mocking Bush, and calling him everything from stupid to retarded. They called for him to be impeached. They called for him to be committed. Jim Wilson said two words, and suddenly they say it's wrong? Get real! The cries of racism are down right stupid, too. ...
No member has ever rebuked the president while on the floor of the Congress. Oh and I love how you bring up Byrd's ancient history then dismiss any charges of racism as "stupid." Go back to the trailer park and stop trying to reinvent history. -RM

Can't the republicans get it though their heads they lost the election and people vote for CHANGE!

President Carter said it best... "It takes a true man to look racism in the eye." TRB Well done President Carter! hear! hear!

Come on people no one has ever said "You Lie" to any President on any level. It is an under tone for whites to say yeah who does Obama think he is. Respect for the President should be given period wether you agree with him or not and this man Wilson should be fined and kicked out of office plain an simple. This should not be tolerated at all...

@ Talarico:
"Or do you suggest more white trash congressmen should call out the president on the floor of the Congress and violate its own rules?"
The Republican's can violate the rules as much as they want, and they know it. They know that the Democrats won't do anything more than a slap on the wrist and continue to show division amongst themselves.
@ Rod:
"They are obsessed with hating him. Surely you've noticed this? The Hitler signs, the racist code words, the birthers, the guns brought to Obama events ..."
I certainly have taken notice, but was not surprised at all. I live in a Southern "Red" state and have seen "teabaggers" and "birthers" organizing locally since early 2008.
However, Wilson's rebuke of the POTUS has served to rally a segment of republicans and "blue dog" democrats who aren't into openly protesting any elected official, nor want to be involved in mass protests. Wilson has allowed that segment to become militant in their own way, from the comfort from their homes...and considering the money Wilson has received, with their checkbooks.
Right. Wilson's comments happened last week and have been a "rallying cry" and fundraising boon for both sides. But you suggested only the Resolution would embolden conservatives. Take care. -RM

Rod, I already read the story from the AP before posting here last night. I also do realize that "admonish" is a verb and should have put "admonishment", but after all in the title it is still an admonishment.
However, I was just saying that because I felt they should have censure if not flat out expelled him from Congress...
