By a vote of 8 to 15, the Senate Finance Committee rejects Rockefeller's (WV) public option amendment. This was considered the strongest Senate proposal for public option in health care reform. Four "Democrats" joined all ten Republicans to defeat the amendment: Baucus (MT), Conrad (ND), Lincoln (AR), Nelson (FL) and Carper (DE).
