The Senate Finance Committee approves an $829 billion plan to overhaul health care. Olympia Snowe of Maine was the only Republican to support the bill in an otherwise party-line 14-9 tally.
Majority Leader Harry Reid will now combine this bill with the Senate HELP Committee's more liberal proposal. The final vote could be in about two weeks. Reid has promised the final Senate bill will include a public option. Jane Hamsher at Firedoglake posts a whip count: There are 51 senators who will vote for the public option. Will it survive a filibuster?

Let's hope for the public option does pass the final bill!

my only concern is the affordability of the plan. With the deficit projected to be 18 trillion in 10 years I don't know how we are going be able to afford very much of anything... I feel corruption in our congress and many of our businesses is the cause. I am lucky. I am 56 years old... and on the way out. I feel bad for the young people.
