The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3. It was centered about 14 miles west of Port-au-Prince. UPDATE: There are reports of a magnitude 7 aftershock (very major) and damage in the Dominican Republic.
UPDATE: Tsunami warning is cancelled.








Aftershocks have been 5.9 then a 5.5. The 7.0 was the first quake.

It's breaking news. It's a disaster. There are often conflicting reports. But the USGS estimate was posted and that has also changed.
I'm a little more concerned about lives lost, but bless your heart. I'm hoping many people were not killed esp in slum areas. The people are poor and housing stock is shoddy. Prayers...
