At the same time a new wave of activism has launched around repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", an eye-appealing new artistic campaign also lends it efforts. The Open Artist Movement and photographer John Ganun have begun "We Can Do It", a new photo campaign inspired by the iconic World War II graphic artist J. Howard Miller. The campaign build solidarity between efforts to repeal DADT and the global LGBT movement.
The first round of models to bare their biceps and strike a pose include Rod 2.0 faves Darryl Stephens, Wilson Cruz and DL Chronicles power couple Deondray Gossett and Quincy Lenear, seen AFTER THE JUMP ...

I LOOOOVE THIS! This iconic WWII poster, updated to reflect 21st century realities, is awesome. (Not to mention smart and sexy...LOL!) Darryl, Wilson, Deondray, and Quincy have given this issue an eye-opening, dramatic boost!

Where is the representative for the Marines? Trying to think of somebody right now...Nice pictures though.

Clever as well! I originally thought it was to encourage the repeal of DADT and encouraging to gay Black and Latino men to join the services.
GOD DO I LOVE WILSON CRUZ!

Peace to ALL!
What's so beautiful about these three is not only their remake of the "ROSIE THE RIVETER" poster but that they are real men to step up and out for all desiring service, as such.
Rosie would be proud & LOL!!!

Gays always imitating women. No wonder we continue with "wanna-be women" stereotype.

Let me get Wilson, Deondray, and Quincy in a room together. They will not know what hit them.

Rosie's iconic poster was about fighting against DISCRIMINATION and saying I HAVE TALENTS TO OFFER @whatuthink.
These are strong, attractive men WHO ARE symbolizing the fight for equality in the military and it would be stupid to reinvent the wheel when, IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, the Women's Movement came up with a campaign that is beyond instantly recognizable and that is what ICONIC means: INSTANTLY AND UNIVERSALLY RECOGNIZABLE!
We live in a culture that needs celebrity for causes to be noticed and if this had just been celebs in uniform, it would have been corny.
THIS IS SMART AND INSTANT!

I believe Wilson represents the Marines. Either him or Deondray. This is a wonderful P.R. push. It is eye catching and creates conversation/discussion, which is what this is all about.

RevKev... they are celebs. Why do you think they were chosen? They aren't just anybody off the streets of WEHO. It's still gay men imitating women again.
Posted by: whatuthink | 20 March 2010 at 12:19
so what is the point about gay men imitating women? so all gay men who are tops are imitating women? I wish they had recreated that famous kiss picture where a sailor is kissing a woman celebrating the end of the war. that would have really been sexy
