On Wednesday, the confessed killer in the gruesome murder and dismemberment of a gay teenager in Puerto Rico plead guilty to first degree murder. Juan Martínez Matos was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
The father expressed forgiveness towards his son's murderer. "Even to the adulterer woman, God said , 'Go and don't do it again. He did not look at her sins. And God forgives."
It's very moving. Watch AFTER THE JUMP ... Myriam Mercado—who has previously spoken eloquently about her son's death—and husband Jorge López were relieved they were spared a trial. "We can grab a little bit of peace in that respect, although it will never bring Steven back to me," says the mother, in a translation provided by Andrés Duque. "At the very least, there is justice in Puerto Rico."

Though the father did express forgiveness toward the murderer, the quote you listed in your article was directed to his child.
He saws his childs actions as a sin.
While I understand these parents have lost their child in the most gruesome of circumstances, I feel it most be said that they and you as well in these storys continue to address this child as He. This child was transgendered and had given herself a female appropriate name.
I do not judge these parents as they go through this horrific event.
Lastly it begs the question, it was the murderer who provided justice in the end as he confessed. If this had gone to trial who knows what would have happened
