Switzerland delivers the biggest shock so far at the World Cup 2010, beating European champ and tournament-favorite Spain 1-0. The goal was scored by midfielder Gelson Fernandes who admits that he also was stunned with his match-winning goal against Spain.
Says the Swiss-Cape Verdean footballer who is fluent in five languages: "I’m a bit surprised. It’s a very special moment for our country and I’m very happy."
Fernandes does his victory dance.
And here's team captain and supermodel-to-be Gokhan Inler, who went airborne while challenging the ball with Spain's Xavi Hernandez.
TIMES Live: "According to opinion polls, almost 70 percent of Spaniards believed their team was going to win the World Cup for the first time, which made Wednesday’s defeat even more painful. The shock loss was front-page news in every single Spanish paper on Thursday."
Switzerland face Chile on Monday.
