Rep. Maxine Waters becomes the second high profile Democrat this week to face charges of misusing her office and opt for a public trial. There's an update to the case of Ellen Chademana, one of the two activists arrested in a May raid on the offices of Zimbabwe's only LGBT rights group and later tortured. Last week, the other employee of Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe, Ignatius Muhambi, was cleared of all charges.
Chadamena's case has been delayed ... for the sixth time ... until Monday because the arresting officer missed court dates and an arrest warrant was issued, reports Behinds the Mask.
"Magistrate Archie Wochiunga issued the warrant after Chademana’s lawyers indicated on 19 July, when Detective Inspector Trust Gomo failed to appear in court... they were applying for refusal of a further remand, following numerous postponements. The warrant was later revoked [July 26] when Gomo appeared in court and stated that he had attended a fellow police officer’s funeral, which he said prompted his delay to take the witness stand."
The prosecutor also called in sick last week, prompting another week's delay.
Chadamena has been accused of "undermining the authority" of President Robert Mugabe and violating censorship laws. Prosecutors claimed that during the raid on GALZ's offices, police found a gay porn DVD and a letter from former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown criticizing Mugabe's anti-gay regime.
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and President Robert Mugabe have rejected calls to include gay rights in the new constitution. Mugabe once infamously described gays as "worse than dogs and pigs" and recently apologized to dogs and pigs for the comparison.
Fire investigators now believe arsonists were behind a fast-moving apartment fire that killed a lesbian couple in Erie, Pennsylvania. The couple had six children and luckily none were home at the time of the blaze.
Gwyneth Henry and Tyreesha Richardson were together for more than ten years. Their badly burned bodies were found in their home's attic Sunday morning after the suspicious fire. Investigators have found an accelerant and fuel vapors, reports CBS3.
"City fire inspector Guy Santone says he has also found no clear evidence of electrical or mechanical problems, but says more tests are needed to finally determine the cause of Sunday's fire. Thirty-one-year-old Tyreesha Richardson, and 43-year-old Gwyneth Henry, died in the fire. The women had lived together for years in the upstairs apartment in a home. Their three children and a tenant in another apartment downstairs weren't home at the time. Nobody has been charged in connection with the fire. County detectives detailed Santone's findings in a search warrant. Santone found fuel vapors near a door and four steps leading to the apartment."
Henry had an 11-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 21 and 23. Richardson had three daughters, ages 11, 10 and 8, as well as a 13-year-old son, reports the Erie Times-News.
A memorial and benefit were held on Friday. "More than 200" friends and neighbors attended and donated food, clothing and money. "Anything we could do to help out,'' said Raymond Basham, "who donated 10 bags of children's clothes, blankets and toiletries. 'Gwen and Tyreesha were good people. They were truly loved.' "

There's an update to the mysterious disappearance of Mitrice Richardson, the now-25-year-old lesbian Los Angeles woman who disappeared ten months ago. The former beauty queen vanished after she was released from a Malibu sheriff's station in 2009. A Los Angeles court recently declared her dead. Authorities are investigating dozens of sightings of the missing woman in Las Vegas, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Richardson's father, Michael Richardson, said Wednesday that a Sheriff's Department official told him recently the department had gathered information on 80 possible sightings of his daughter in Las Vegas. [Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore] would not confirm that number but said, "They wouldn't be doing this if they didn't believe they had credible information of her whereabouts. They want to prove or disprove beyond a shadow of a doubt that these sightings are indeed fact or indeed not fact."
According to Michael Richardson, a Sheriff's Department official discussed with him the possibility that his daughter was working as a prostitute in Las Vegas. Richardson said it was possible she was under the influence of someone keeping her from contacting family and friends. Or that she may have simply shrugged off old connections on her own. It's also possible that the multiple sightings are not of Richardson but of a woman who resembles her. "Absolutely possible," Whitmore said. "They want to make it definitive."
CNN reports a former high-school classmate now living in Las Vegas reported seeing Richardson at a casino in early June. "The casino's security cameras didn't have video of the incident that was of a high enough quality. But since then, investigators have talked to more than 70 people who say they have seen her."
On September 17, the California State-Fullerton graduate was arrested for not paying her $89 tab at a Malibu-area restaurant. At 12:30am, she was released from a Los Angeles County Sheriff's station in without her purse, cellphone or automobile, which was impounded. It was later revealed that Richardson was troubled and bi-polar.
In May 2010, Rep. Maxine Waters asked the Justice Department to investigate the disappearance. Earlier this month, Richardson's mother filed a negligence and wrongful death lawsuit against Los Angeles County and Sheriff's Department officials.

One of the highlights of the trip to Berlin was ascending the city's Fernsehturm, which is German for "television tower." The iconic tower is situated in Alexanderplatz and dominates the city's central and eastern skyline. The tower was built in the mid 1960s as a symbol of communist superiority in the former DDR. It's an archetype of the massive, modernist Eastern Bloc architecture of that period.
Berliner Fernsehturm is 268m or 1207 ft and the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe. It offers a 360 degree view of Berln and visibility up to 26 miles.

Awwww. Luvo Manyonga of South Africa tears up and then cries as he receives his gold medal in the Long Jump at the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Manyonga follows in the footsteps of fellow South African Godfrey Khotso Mokoena as the only Africans to win IAAF gold in the Long and/or Triple Jumps. "It makes me feel good because only two South Africans have ever won medals [in horizontal jumps] at the World Junior Championships,” Manyonga told reporters as he teared up.

Vive la France! Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France finishes first in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Martinot-Lagarde became the first Frenchman ever to win the gold in that event.
