gawd why would anyone black ask dr laura for advice? were howard stern and rush limbaugh not available?

True Words

I think the WORST thing that has been done with that word was for black people to start using it again.

The reasoning behind it's reintroduction to the mainstream is one that is weak, misleading and ignorant for it's delivery and frequency of use. With it's use in mainstream media such as TV and music; it has created a backlash of "when and who" can use it.

Can Emimen use the n-word when talking about Jayz or in his records?

No other group so outwardly and publicly calls each other such harsh names. You NEVER hear Jewish people say "kike"; Hispanic people say "spick or wet back"; Asian people say, "chink or slant eyed"; Arab people say, "camel jockey"...and in my opinion sometimes gays and women come dangerously close to using "fag/faggot and bitch" toward one another and then all hell breaks loose when someone else uses it.

Yes, I know the argument regarding using this and other words with friends or in a friendly and/or joking manner is OK...but I will pass

It would be nice that when anyone hears such racist language it is a CLEAR case of wrong doing and hatred but alas the "black community" has truly sent the wrong signal regarding this word.

I could never say that n word because I know my grandmother who is 91 years old was called that while being made to work harder and denied her rights; there is NO amount of "owning" this word that can ever erase the stain of her personal history that shaped my mother and ultimately me as well.

Luther

Wow, and had the caller used a slur for Jewish people she would have had a seizure, yet another right wing racist, but, at the same time she opens that can of worms, well is blacks use it, which is why it should be against the law for anyone to use that vile word...

Black Pegasus

This event should re-open the debate of "Blacks using the N-Word". I don't believe we've truly dealt with the issue in an substantive manner.

Dr. Laura, Rush LimBurger and others of their ilk will always be who they are, but WE CAN BE BETTER!

Dalton

@ True Words:

You are white, are you not? In the Mitrice Richardson story you said "I wish the black community publicly looked after, discussed and dissected their community first." That's exactly what we do at this blog and if you WERE black you would know that.

And now you also refer to Blacks in the third person.

I'm just asking because there are a lot of white gay men who read this blog, and obviously like the PICTURES and themes, but get very worked up around race and often tell us what 'Black people' should do. No offense hon, but I really don't need a white gay man who parcahutes into this blog and ONLY discusses racially charged stories to TELL 'us' what we need to do.

And sorry, but being attracted to black men doesn't qualify you to speak on our issues.

Black Pegasus

@ Dalton

You betta Speak on it!!! LOL

Luv it!

Faison

I'm not giving black comedians and entertainers a pass. As Black Pegasus said, it's a good idea to have that discussion but this is about Dr. Laura. She knows what she was doing and has a history of racial remarks and calling gay people names.

And let me cosign Dalton; True Words your comments here and in the Mitrice thread definitely suggest you are white. Ignoring Laura's racial rant and focusing on the "Black community" is classic white privilege. I guess you like the pics here, right, just not the politics. Sheesh...

Faison

"And sorry, but being attracted to black men doesn't qualify you to speak on our issues."

Ouch!

Dalton is back lol
And no you didn't say "parachute" into thius blog lol

malik m.l. williams

how is this woman still on the air? i mean, i actually get her point about hearing "nigger" all over entertainment, but the lunacy of suggesting that someone has a chip on their shoulder or is hypersensitive because they don't shut up and take your abuse is beyond comprehension to me.

the most telling part of her post-call rant: "i really thought that once we had a black president, the attempt to demonize whites hating blacks would stop." i wonder how many white people voted for barack obama for that very reason....

Chitown Kev

Game set and match to Dalton!

I mean, on the surface, Dr. Laura was making a good point from a certain POV but she enjoyed saying that word far too much; as if she became possessed and empowered by saying it.

And, you know, the n-word part was actually one of the least offensive parts of her racist rant.

let's see...

Don't NAACP me...

all blacks voted for Obama because...

black think...

And it actually had nothing to do with the woman's marital problems; which is what the call was suppose to be about.

As far as her interracial marriage comments; odious as they were, that is her actual position on interfaith marriages as well, so that isn't even surprising.

Bill

im just shocked.... shocked to find out that silly woman is still on the air...

Jacob

I saw this on anderson cooper360 last night and hoped that you were gonna post this to spread the word about this racist non human being. thank you rod.

TrueWords

Nope Dalton and others...I am black and proud; I have freed my mind, body and soul to dissect and ask the tough questions of which no one has addressed. Please don't try to paint me as something else to garner points with the audience here it is a childish ploy to distract from the questions presented.

Why do we (the black community) tolerate and/or give permission for anyone to use this terrible word

I am just tired of hearing that awful word as a black man in America.

Don Thigpen

I'm Black: All Laura was doing was quoting blacks on HBO. You're okay with me Dr. Laura. People get real !
That's "all" Schlessinger was doing? Hurling "nigger" at a Black caller 11 times? The part about Obama? Telling the caller "not to get NAACP on her"? Calling gays "deviant" ... are you "okay" with that too, "Black" gay man? smh -RM

TrueWords

For the record: Dr. Laura was wrong for saying it!

Richard Fusilier

That Jewish lady, Laura Schlessinger is a square (too square!) but she is very good in her professional
vocation. No one comes close to her!

GeeGee

Im sure u feel that way Richard Fusilier....

Now where is the button for the trap door u are standing under so I can push it as hard as I can

Derrick from Philly

Richard:

I had to go google a few biographies of Schlessinger after your comment. Turns out that she wasn't raised a Jew, and she hated her Jewish father. She converted to Orthodox Judism but then converted back to Christianity. She was estranged from her Roman Catholic mother for 14 years. She admitted to extra-marital affairs. She doesn't like gays nor blacks nor her mother or father.

She sounds more like a mentally ill Nazi to me than Jewish.

Bookerbj

Did she say that she thought that Blacks would stop "persecution" Whites who hate Blacks with the election of President Obama? Wow! Now that is some serious "spin".

I and True Words seem to be in accord here. I am an African American. I am a black man. I think that the N word should not be used by anyone--black, white, yellow, red or otherwise. It's a word that is a negative intensifier. About a year ago a black man was unhappy with me and called me that about a dozen times in two minutes. He wasn't speading love to me.

You're either part of the solution or you're a part of the problem. The use of the N word by African Americans is part of the problem. An N is someone who is stupid, dumb or lazy. But even an N is smart enough to know not to use an N attorney, doctor, carpenter, etc. Using the N word is like drinking poision for the African American community. I won't drink the kool-aid and I suggest that others also refrain from doing so.

We have problems. Using the N word is a negative behavior. We should eliminate negative behaviors--not excuse them!

Moore asked: gawd why would anyone black ask dr laura for advice?

That’s an interesting question. Is this some kind of self-hate? Or did she think talking to “Dr.” Laura might give her some insight into the racist minds of her husband’s friends? If so, she got some good insight.

I also want to know what kind of husband would have friends who would make racist remarks about his wife.

Cain's evil Twin

I'm glad that some posters here have noticed Dr. Laura's shots against Obama . She correctly stated that some people voted for Obama based on his skin color. What she neglected to say was that at least for every voter that voted for Obama because of his skin color were 5 racist whities, including lifelong Democrats who could not vote for a black man. Dr. Laura showed her political bias, her racism and her lack of qualification to be a helpful adviser in such a short period of time.

Chitown Kev

@Dean...

Yeah, before she went all crazy with it, Dr. Laura DID have a valid point.

Even if some black people didn't think that she had a right to say it; a lot of black people would have agreed with her.

As far as why would a black person listen to Dr. Laura...

In a way, Dr. Laura schtick is about the same as Dr. Ruth Westheimer's (sp?)...the blunt old Jewish lady who will tell you like it is.

I know many blacks that kinda sorta like that type of tough talk as opposed to sugarcoating the real deal.

Now if Dr. Laura had said, for example, that she should have checked this all out before you married the guy, that might have been harsh but it would have been consistent with what she has been saying on the radio for decades (you marry the other's family also).
