More on an escalating battle between church and state in Mexico that R20 mentioned on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrand has filed a defamation suit against Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez of Guadalajara after the archbishop publicly accused the mayor of bribing the Supreme Court to uphold the capitol's law allowing same sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples, reports the LA Times.
Sandoval made the allegations Sunday during an event in Aguascalientes. He also used a slur against gays while decrying the recent high court decisions that were called victories for the gay-rights communit. Church authorities were not backing down. Sandoval said Monday he would not retract his comments, and the archdiocese in Guadalajara later said it had proof of the allegations against the Supreme Court justices. Statements in support were issued from the archdiocese in Mexico City, while the Bishops' Conference of Mexico also said it supports Sandoval.
The exact quote by His Eminence: "Would you want to be adopted by a pair of faggots or lesbians?" The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico also calls gay marriage worse than drug trafficking, btw.
The Mexico Supreme Court voted unanimously to rebuke Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez.

Gosh, these bigots dont rest. I hope he gets sued for all he's worth. They stand on their high moral pedestals spewing hate in the name of God. Do they really think they're speaking for the lord?

Maybe it's time Americans start taking these whack-job religious yahoos to court. They seem to think they can say anything and do anything - in the name of you-know-who.
