The fabulous Miss Jennifer Holliday headlined Chicago's Market Days weekend with Jon Secada. The Dreamgirl was brilliant ...
I've heard Jennifer Holliday perform live at least a half dozen times and each time is a treat. This performance was no different. The diva performed a few of her hits, including the show stoppers "I Am Telling You" and "I Am Changing." More images and watch the performances AFTER THE JUMP ...

I love me some Jennifer Holliday!
yesssss!

Is it just me or does Jennifer Holiday look like a drag queen in these photos? I'm just sayin'.

She ripped, "I am Changing" a new asshole!!!!

It's just you, Darryl. Maybe some drag queens have just gotten it right and THEY LOOK LIKE JENNIFER HOLLIDAY!
I think she looks amazing, especially giving us glamor in daylight...COME ON NOW, you know that's the Diva trick. Patti, Aretha, Natalie, Chaka, they all have to balance giving us the glamor we want and not looking like they are overpainted.
She looks amazing and I'm so glad that she's still doing her dang thang and so brilliantly well.

The last photo is particularly gorgeous!

I was always glad she kept the weight off. So many people get the bypass and gain it back. She looks good. That said, I do get tired of her warbling that song. She had many other great ones. "I Am Love" was my favorite.

It is amazing to see Jennifer Holiday in concert. It is one I will never forget. She was so witty and so in tune with her audience. She looks and sounds great! You go girl!

AMEN, Mystic Stranger!! My favorites are "Giving Up" (which is WAY more heart-wrenchingly powerful than "AIATY" and will make you get up and slap the nearest face!), "This Day," "No Frills Love" and "Say You Love Me." It's time to put "And I Am Telling You" in the trunk for awhile. But of course, no one will ever let her do that.

Soulbrotha and Mystic Stranger, I appreciate the "sentiment" but that would be like asking:
Patti to not do OVER THE RAINBOW
Aretha to not do RESPECT
Natalie to not do THIS WILL BE/UNFORGETTABLE
Chaka to not do TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD
Nancy to not do GUESS WHO I SAW TODAY...
Sure, I agree on the spotlight on that one song, but prayerfully, the crowd got to see all of the songs you listed or at least a few.
SOULBROTHA, I saw her in DC @ Blues Alley one Valentines Day week. She did "GIVING UP" as her ENCORE and they tried to DESTROY that building! YOU ARE SO RIGHT! The pianist almost played the thing off the stage, the saxman stood on top of the piano and JENNIFER HOLLIDAY SANG UNTIL SHE DEVOURED THE STAGE and then....wait for it...sang through the audience, up the stairs and INTO HER DRESSING ROOM!!! It was sheer pandemonium and the establishment had to buy a round of drinks to calm the place down!!!! IT WAS RAPTURE! So, yes, they all have bigger/hotter/stronger/more powerful songs, but we don't record them and put them online!

I hear you Kev, but singers do put those songs on the shelf at times. Stephanie Mills did it for years with Home because she was plain tired of it ... and Madonna did it with many of her older songs. Sometimes the classics need a rest. It's even worse in the case of Jennifer Holilday because it seems as if she is still hung up on her Dreamgirls days and won't let them go. I think that is what is troublesome with her. I do love the song though.

RevKev, chile, you got me sitting here with my arms folded, rocking back and forth and muttering like Okra Winfrey in The Color Purple!!
LAWD, WHY WASN'T I THERE???!!! IT AIN'T RIGHT!!
