Right-wing harpy Ann Coulter headlined Homocon, the gay conservative event hosted Saturday night in New York City by GOProud.
The tax cut obsessed queens weren't expecting this, reports TPM.
"In one of a series of racially insensitive remarks that pervaded her speech, Coulter added, 'Marriage is not a civil right. You're not black.' It was part of a larger argument on which she later elaborated, telling the crowd that the 14th Amendment only applies to African-Americans and that it does not, in fact, apply to women, LGBT people or other minorities. ...
Thankfully Coulter segued into her signature race-baiting, so the "mostly white" and "predominantly wealthy" gay conservative audience could finally laugh ...
"Several attendees, who requested anonymity, were also startled by her racially-tinged humor: Coulter's comments about civil rights being "only for the blacks" rubbed many people the wrong way as well, though her joke about oppression and the amount of money in the gay community compared to other minority communities ('Blacks must be looking at the gays saying, 'Why can't we be oppressed like that?'') garnered plenty of laughs from the well-heeled crowd."
Only days before the event, Coulter published a column lionizing Ronald Reagan ... because of his opposition to gay rights.
The event was hosted by Peter Thiel, the billionaire homocon founder of Paypal. Politico's Ben Smith also attended and describes GOProud as "the tea party of the gay rights movement."

WOW...any gay man that could sit in the audience and listen to her vitriol MUST be white and SO consumed by WHITE PRIVILEGE that they can breathe for a while and just laugh about being white, male, wealthy and irresponsible to social concerns.
This woman makes me sick to my stomach.

Well, she inadvertently made the case for why being gay is a civil right. Since I didn't make a choice to be black, I equally didn't make a choice to be gay either. So she unwittingly just said that being gay is a civil right since people don't choose to be gay. These homophobes are so effin stupid and they don't even know it.

Wretched. If people looked on the outside like they are on the inside, Coulter would rival the scariest of zombies from the movies.

Did anyone seriously expect something different from this crowd? The fact that those Queens invited Coulter to speak says alot about who they are! The Race Baiting humor is what those racist queens want to hear!
I've been saying this for a while now. Most White Gay Men function in a mindset of "Privilege". They want so badly to belong to the White Privileged Society currently being enjoyed by their Heterosexual Counterparts, and they will do anything it takes to mimic Straight White Privilege even if it means being a bunch Virulent Racist.
Once they're done trying to Hi-jack President Obama's Administration with their demands, they'll want NOTHING to do with the Democratic Party nor the minorities who occupy it!

I really wish people would stop giving people like this the press that they want but that's my small view of a perfect world. *sigh*
Nice that she didn't even bother to read the 14th amendment. Yes, it was crafted to ensure that blacks born in the U.S. are recognized as Americans but the actual wording of the 14th amendment is neutral. Neutral = applies to all.

Also comparing Coulter to Judy Garland is just obscene.

Black Pegasus,
You are so right! I have been saying the same thing for a while now, too. This is one of the biggest issues in trying to create a truly welcoming gay community. We will never be able to advance our cause if there is an "us" and "them." The fact of the matter remains that the economic power of white gay men has acted as a buffer and source of power, but they use it only for the causes they see fit.
This whole event is just a sad, sad day in gay history. And the fact that these folks think that their money will shield them from the anti-gay reactionaries out there (or, even worse, foolishly they can align themselves with these Tea Party crazies) they will learn the truth soon enough.

@RAVENBACK: BRILLIANT OBSERVATION AND GOOD CATCH!
Indeed.
Posted by: TheRevKev | 27 September 2010 at 12:37
@Kevjack. U hit it on the head! They will learn and see that these people don't like them because they are homosexuals and they will gladly take them money and dog them as they walk out the door.
I'm on this trip lately about letting people learn the hard way if that's what they wanna do. I have to apply that here with these dumb, rich queens......just as I had with the congregation of New Birth. They'll all learn the hard way.

This disgrace is the biggest bigot in the republican party and gay republicans well thats just an oxymoron within itself.

"The tax cut obsessed queens weren't expecting this..."
REALLY? So now these men are "queens"? And you know this how, Rod? Just because they are gay Republicans? Or just because they are white gay Republicans?
Let me also add that Queerty, Towleroad and JoeMyGod ran this same story and focused on Ann;s misguided 14th amendment comments. Only this (formerly interesting) blog went further and reported her little joke about blacks and quoted reports that said the audience was white and wealthy.
Very good. The natives are restless now. The DL brothas are free to condemn racism while stereotyping all gay White men. I am Gay, White and conservative. I have a black partner and have been with several brothas. I am definitely not racist.

"So now these men are "queens"? And you know this how, Rod? Just because they are gay Republicans? Or just because they are white gay Republicans?"
I wouldn't call them "queens". Republicans don't have enough style for that characterization. I'd call them GOP Ann Coulter's p_ssy eatin' b_tches. That's what I'd call 'em.

ROFL. Queerty racebaits all day and night, and TR and JMG cater to predominately white gay male audience. They might oppose Coulters politics but trust me! Those blogs and their readers are the epitome of white gay privilege. Read the comments in any story on Obama and get back to me.
As far as not being racist, whatever you say, gurl. Phrases such as "the natives are restless" don't help your argument. And just because you like black dick and black men doesn't mean you are sympathetic to our cause ... and are not racist.

@Topanga Canyon
"I am definitely not racist."
Oh, we know, girl...we knooooooooooow. /snark

@ Topanga:
"I am Gay, White and conservative. I have a black partner and have been with several brothas. I am definitely not racist."
Translation:
"I'm a moderately wealthy gay white man that votes Republican and votes for candidates that attack black people. But I crave black dick and feel powerful when I top snow queens. Respect my authority!"

You have to remember that GOProud is a breakaway group from the Log Cabin Republicans who felt that that group was not conservative. Unfortunately, nowadays, "conservative" pretty much means hateful and crazy. Everything I've read about this group including host, Peter Thiel, pretty much fits the bill.
@Topanga : You must just post for the attention, because you cannot be serious. Queerty race baits on a daily basis and while Towleroad is fairer, its comments sections, when dealing with anything the slightest bit racial is worse than a right-wing blog. The word, Nigger, gets thrown around so much over there, you have to check the calender to verify the year you're living in. I suggest you patrol that site instead of this one since you 'love' black men so much.

Dear Black Pegasus:
I beg to differ that they want to be included with the privileged – they are the privileged and the only obstacles ahead of them is how they can distribute their money: although, this can be rectified easily with trusts and wills.
Posted by: jg, III | 27 September 2010 at 16:42
Actually, what these GOProuders are are church queens (which comes in all races).
They just worship in the temple of the almighty dollar.
But essentially they're just as psychologically damaged.
Posted by: Chitown Kev | 27 September 2010 at 16:44
I understand the anger, but let's not misdirect it. Remember when black votes helped to pass Prop8? Allot of gays blamed blacks. Now we're using some white gay republicans (a tiny minority) to race bait all white gays.

@Topanga Canyon
Gurl Please!! As Chris Cruz and the rest of my Gay brethren have already expressed to you; "Queerty is a Digital Shit Rag". How dare you use them as some type of journalistic standard bearers. They are race baiting self loathing queens who wants to divide the Gay community! I know because I post over there under the same name. I usually keep it cute over there, but I don't hesitate to slay you racist clowns when you step sideways.
And as for your Black Boyfriend (LOL Lawd Lemme Breathe).....If you are indeed a White Republican Conservative, and you're dating a Black Gay Man, then hunny, you can have that self loathing queen! You two deserve each other! NOT because you're an interracial couple, but because you both believe in that craptastic donkeysh*t being propagated by republicans...
You both are in need of serious mental heath care..Your psychological disorders are dangerous!

I guess that other way to look at white LGBTQ Republicans are the black LGBTQ church queens who still remain homophobic churches and believe that crap; or the gospel queens going straight to the bank and their million homes. In essence, not of fall too far from the tree of our family of origin, if born a Republican will come out as Republican and die as one. Raised Pentecostal and died Pentecostal. The only other options are to differentiate and that’s, too, complicated a skill for those who don’t know how to confront their past.

I'm not a single issue voter by any means, but making sure that the people I vote for aren't working to actively harm me, my family, and my friends is one of the most important ones by far. Sounds like these GOProud fools got exactly what they paid for - someone who'd emphasize that tax cuts and belonging to the elite are worth more than self-respect. They covet the Mary Cheney effect - if you've got wealth and power then the rules don't apply to you and that's what these hypocrites want more than anything. Screw everyone else though, as long as they get theirs.
@Topanga Canyon
Something tells me that the "brothas" you like fit a rigid, narrow stereotype.

I usually hate calling people Nazis and such, but what term is strong enough for someone who tries to hold down certain groups and maintain special stats and entitlements for themselves? Coulter and her I'll are ghouls.
