Speaking last night in his second address from the Oval Office, President Obama "declared an end to the seven-year American combat mission in Iraq." The President did not claim victory but said it was "time to turn the page" on the war in Iraq, emphasizing the dire state of the U.S. economy and linking it in part to the Iraq War. “We have spent over a trillion dollars at war, often financed by borrowing from overseas,” said the President.
Approximately 50,000 U.S. troops remain in Iraq. The troops will engage in combat in what is now primarily a "training and advising" mission. The Center for American Progress reports: "As of yesterday, 4,416 American troops had lost their lives in Iraq, with more than 30,000 wounded and more than 39,000 diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Low-end estimates of Iraqi civilian deaths are around 100,000, with many more wounded, and over 4 million displaced both within and outside Iraq."

Good shot! I am pleasantly surprised he was able to do it this term.

It really is time to leave. Of course the US should have never gone over there, but Cheney wanted the oil reserves for Haliburton. That's why the first thing they did was protect the oil wells and not the citizens!!!
