Thinking of sitting out the mid-term elections on Nov. 2? Don't.
The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund releases a hard-hitting new web video entitled "What Will You Lose?" to explain what is at stake for the LGBT community. And there are dozens of reasons to vote in November, from health care reform to the Supreme Court. Most important: Preventing anti-gay conservatives from controlling Congress.
Shout out to hottie Democratic National Committee member Evan Low at 1:00, the mayor of Campbell, California and the youngest openly gay mayor in the country. And thanks to the Victory Fund for its help in electing Maryland's Mary Washington, the second openly lesbian Black legislator in the nation.

I don't really know how this blog thing works too much, but does comments being auto-held mean that comments challenging your position on Eddie Long and how people respond to him will not be posted?

".... but does comments being auto-held mean that comments challenging your position on Eddie Long and how people respond to him will not be posted?"
Noooo...it just means Rod has to review the nasty anti-gay comments coming from hypocritical church folks and ignorant non-church folks. Your comment was ok, and that's why it was posted.
And what exactly does the "good" Bishop Long have to do with this handsome young OPENLY GAY mayor. Thank God, the "good" Bishop Long didn't get his claws on the beautifully young Mayor Low.

@ J P: there have been plenty of arguing points posted in regards to the Eddie Long situation. You sound a little upset because people may not be agreeing with you.......

yes I have no patience for so-called progressives who cant get "enthused" enough to vote in the midterms

@JP
As ROD said yesterday; some comments are being auto-held because of some homophobic rhetoric that's been coming in since the Eddie Long case broke. I'm a long time visitor of this blog, and even some of my posts are auto-held. So don't get salty about it, if you're respectful, yet passionate about your side of the topic I don't see any reason why Rod would not post your comment. Just be patient, the site is experiencing high traffic right now.

@ JP: Rod has zero patience for black gay church queens or closeted men who argue for the closet and support gay baiting preachers. I don't blame him, there is too much of that already in our community.
But there have been plenty of people supporting Eddie Long's triffling azz on this blog. The fact you came trolling in a post on politics and the very important midterm elections speaks for itself. It speaks volumes.

What Derrick said. That hot young man is a mayor?
Dayumn.
Hellllloooo Mr Mayor!

When I said, I don't know how these blog things work, I was being serious. I haven't posted before.
And I tried to post on the previous entry addressing the 'auto held' thing, but it said comments were closed.
Thanks for those who managed to answer my question without attacking my character. It is unfortunate that many of us are so quick to make judgment about people we know nothing about.
For what it's worth, please know that not all black Christian communities are rallying behind Long blindly.

@ JP:
"I tried to post on the previous entry addressing the 'auto held' thing, but it said comments were closed."
Why assume that because comments were closed, but comments on Eddie Long posts were open, that he was trying to block differing points of view? And what were you trying to post anyway, 'why are you running late'?
If you "haven't posted before", why not post a comment to a post you like or don't like, instead of accusing Rod of doing something he has never done to you?
Sorry, I'm calling BS on you. I stand by what I said earlier about you trolling.
Posted by: Talarico | 27 September 2010 at 19:45
Talarico, continue to call whatever you choose. Fortunately you have the right to do that. I didn't say or assume Rod was blocking differing views. I simply asked if that is what was happening - just like that's what's been happening on some pro-Long blogs, because if it was I had no interest in being a part of the discourse.
Man, you're doing a lot of accusing and assuming here, which is really a shame considering that you don't even know my position on al of this. LOL. For those of interested in discussing some real issues instead of making assumptions, know that I am not pro-Long - at all. But I am pro having an actual discussion about the multiple issues arising in this situation.

Thanks for sharing this powerful commercial. The quotes from Repubs and Tea Baggers are quite disturbing. I will have to forward it out to my friends to remind them why we need to get the vote out in November.
Evan Low the young gay and Asian mayor of Campbell, California is at the :58 mark. Kudos to the folks of Campbell (a suburb of San Jose) for being progressive enough to break the mold and elect Mr. Low.

This is a great commercial. I would like to see more people of color in it, but I really like it. It should be shown in every major city in the US, and any/all smaller cities that would allow it. I vote in every election no matter what. For me, I think of my grandparents and others who died so I can vote. I know it is a right, but to me it is also a privledge.

Great vid! Mr Low is quite easy on the eyes; I wish he was my mayor.

"For what it's worth, please know that not all black Christian communities are rallying behind Long blindly."
Judging from the comments on the article, I have to say BS. Another Black Christian apologist downplaying the seriousness of this issue. Christianity at its finest.
