Makes me very optimistic about the future seeing young kids that are so brave and outspoken

soulbrotha

Brilliant.

sean D

Outstanding!

What did the School Board decide to do?

derrick from Philly

Beyond articulate. Thank you, Rod for presenting this story today. You made my Monday, and now the Eagles will make my Monday night...just like your Bears did for you yesterday.

But more importantly, a brilliant and articulate young man...and at fourteen...wow!

This kid is fucking amazing

This kid is phenomenal! Articulate, poised, organized, collected, and courageous. He is all of that. I'm inspired to lift my own game a little higher. God bless him and his parents.

Jarron

I thought the kid was great and so well spoken. But I didn't like the MLK part. I can't stand when white homosexuals invoke black civil rights/leaders to bolster their arguments but still exhibit so much racism w/in the gay community.

I don't wanna turn this into something negative against the kid. But that just irks me.
But you are turning it into "something negative against" a 14yo who did something very courageous. The kid was calling out that same county for once being home to the KKK. How can you compare that "racism w/in the gay community"? That's some BS. MK-RM

Wow, thanks for posting this, Rod. Very moving speech. And the boy is beyond articulate. Goodness, I thought he was nine years old just by his appearance and size,b ut he speaks so eloquently. Amazing indeed.

GQ

APPLAUSE and KUDOS! I wished I had the poise, the courage and the articulation when i was 14. I didn't even know how to express what I was feeling back then. @ Jarron, I can empathize with you because I had my share of facing racism from some "white homosexuals". However, this kid was not exhibiting racism against anyone. If you are angry about certain homosexuals exhibiting racism and disrespect to you directly and personally, continue to call them out. But keep it to the source of the problem. It's pointless to have one's anger/ frustration all over the place.

Honut Sinti

That young man is absolutely amazing! KUDOS to him for standing up for this teacher.

gay kids these days

Jarron,

What I HATE is when Black people hold our GREATNESS hostage under the guises of OTHERS never being able to touch it.

IT IS BECAUSE OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. that people marched in China and a man stood in front of a tank, that the migrant workers and Cesar Chavez found their voice and why they were singing WE SHALL OVERCOME as the Berlin Wall came tumbling down!

I believe that we understand the MAGNITUDE of our brilliance when it bleeds and builds into the fabric of other cultures. When thinking of people who stood up and spoke out, this little boy found Dr. King's voice in a country that tried to keep their foot on his throat! That's powerful and if there were a better example, he would have used it BUT THERE IS NOT! He evoked Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because that voice still rings out crystal clear as someone strong enough IN THIS COUNTRY to speak out FOR HIS LIFE...WITH HIS LIFE!

Bravo!!!!

Kaserio2008

He put it out there. I was very proud that someone has the courage to stand up for what is right. I disagree respectfully Jarron about him using a part of MLK's speak, I love this quote that Coretta Scott King said in reference to gay rights ""I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people. ... But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream, to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."

A school superintendent wrongfully suspended a teacher in a manner that fosters an environment where racist and homophobic bullying is accepted in a school district. Why hasn't that superintendent been fired?
