On Monday, R20 wrapped the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Music and entertainment mogul Russell Simmons received the Excellence in Media Award presented by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Both are veteran supporters of gay rights.
"It's no secret that faith-based communities, in some cases, have been difficult," said Simmons. "For all of us who step outside of our comfort zone and fight for the rights of others, we are blessed. And Rev. Sharpton [has] stood up in so many ways and has been very special. And to the gay and lesbian community he's a true blessing."
It's a powerful speech, watch it AFTER THE JUMP ...

Thanks for posting this Rod. Good to see legends in Hip Hop, civil rights and the clergy standing up and speaking out.

What confuses me most about Mr. Simmons' stance on homophobia now is that he's made millions and millions of dollars from homophobic rap songs under the guise of "allowing poets to tell their stories."

I think what's important is what Mr. Russel Simmons is doing NOW.
