So much for the much-hyped battle of the boybands at last night's Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The surprise winners: Pop duo Ell/Nikki with the first Eurovision win for Azerbaijan ... the former Soviet republic that is technically in Asia.
Ireland's glam rock/Human League-inspired identical twin twinks Jedward finished ninth. And after reuniting after six years apart—and one of the most commercially successful bands ever to compete in the campy contest—British R&B super-hotness Simon Webbe and his Blue bandmates finished in the middle at eleven. JEdward's tune is catchy and their look is perfect for Eurovision, too bad they didn't place a little higher.
JEdward and Blue undoubtedly were the gay faves of the contest, with the campy aesthetic of the Irish twins and the pec- and abstastic appeal of Simon Webbe and Blue's openly bisexual singer Duncan James.
