Rep. Tim Scott made history last year as the first Black Republican elected to Congress from South Carolina in more than a century. The anti-gay Tea Party favorite has now suggested the President should be impeached if he raises the debt ceiling.
"This president is looking to usurp congressional oversight to find a way to get it done without us. My position is that is an impeachable act," Rep. Scott said a local Tea Party meeting this week. "This is catastrophic [and] jeopardizes the credibility of our nation if one man can usurp the entire system set up by our founding fathers."
The United States faces the unprecedented specter of defaulting on its public debt in the event that the debt ceiling is not raised by August 2. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has suggested the debt limit might be unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment, and the President does not need congressional approval to raise it.
Obama did not rule out this an option during Wednesday's tweetup, but insisted the situation should not escalate to that level.
Scott is "not a lonely voice" in the House GOP caucus and others have discussed this privately, Texas Rep. Pete Olson tells Think Progress.
This is definitely one way for a Black Republican to curry favor with the Tea Party and GOP base. Watch the video AFTER THE JUMP ...

WOW IMPEACH HIM FOR DOING SOMETHING THAT BUSH DID 8 TIMES. PLUS ONLY CONGRESS CAN RAISE THE DEBT CEILING SO HE NEEDS TO GET HIS FACTS STRAIGHT ON WHAT A PRESIDENT CAN GET IMPEACHED FOR. A BLACK REPUBLICAN...OH THE SELF HATRED IS SO ALIVE IN THIS CLOWN.

Can we get those wild "children" who cut up in Boystown Chicago to make a trip to Congressman Scott's office?
You know, there used to be a time when there were sane Republicans from the North and some insane Democrats from the South. Now, the insane Democrats wield no real power, but the insane Republicans are having a field day.

You can't impeach the president for doing something that is not illegal. Just because "you don't like it", is not enough to stand in a court of law. This is what I
always mean by the fact that the president needs to frame the conversation in his favor. If he is considering doing something that Bush did 8 times or other presidents have done (albeit not with congressional approval), why is not saying that? Why isn't he making these people look foolish by asking why can't he do what is legally in his rights as commander-in-chief, to do? This will take care of itself because of all the backroom deals that are being made right now. Obama will cut some social security deal, while Boehner shuts up. This way they all save face and look like they've won. That's politricks.
