This is very nice. A new campaign has been launched to raise awareness within Toronto’s Black communities about the importance of being an ally to Black LGBT youth. Toronto is Canada's largest city and home to its largest Black population.
"Black Family and Friends: Love, Acceptance and Support" was launched earlier this summer by PFLAG Canada, Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention and other community-based groups. There are print, web and YouTube components and the recepton has been good, organizers tell Rod 2.0.
There are also video testimonials from Black LGBT Torontonians. One of the newest videos is from actor, comedian and writer Trey Anthony, whose critically-acclaimed play "Da Kink in My Hair" was later adapted into a television show for Global.
"There's this thought that the Black community has not been supportive," says the lesbian comedian. "That's not been the case. The Black community needs dialogue and we need to be able to speak our truths."
Bravo. Watch Trey Anthony's story and Sampson, who says that his sexuality made him feel alone "isolated" in his religious family AFTER THE JUMP ...
