Newark Mayor Cory Booker has slammed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's suggestion that marriage equality should be submitted to a voter referendum.
"Dear God, we should not be putting civil rights issues to a popular vote, subject to the sentiments and the passions of the day," says the Newark mayor, named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world and a strong gay rights and equality supporter. "This is a fundamental bedrock of what our nation stands for."
You may recall that in 2010, the mayor has said he would refuse to officiate any marriage ceremonies until "all people have the legal right to marry" in New Jersey.
Christie has called for a voter referendum on same-sex marriage. The Republican governor has promised to veto "any" marriage equality bill that comes to his desk.

Booker's sexy points just went off the charts with this statement. And I cannot imagine that he doesn't want to slap the fat off of Christie every single day.
