There are developments after the tragic Saturday death of pop icon Whitney Houston. The Los Angeles County Coroner reportedly performed an autopsy today but a final cause of death will likely be deferred pending toxicology results.
Drowning is considered one likely scenario. The Los Angeles Times and TMZ report sources indicate that Houston possibly feel asleep in the bathtub. The 48-year-old singer-actress was apparently found in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hilton, says TMZ.
According to our sources, her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among the people in the room at the time. We're told they became worried about Whitney because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour and it was time to start getting ready for the Clive Davis party.
Our sources say they began to knock on the door and there was no answer. We're told the hairdresser, who is female, went in to check on Whitney. She immediately screamed and, according to our sources, one of the bodyguards came running in and pulled her out of the tub. We're told Whitney's face was below the water and her legs were up ... like she had slid down the back of the tub.
Authorities reportedly found Xanax in the singer's hotel room. No illegal drugs were found. "Whitney had been drinking the night before and authorities believe a combination of Xanax and alcohol could have fatally sedated her," adds TMZ.
Whitney Houston is generally regarded as having had one of the greatest voices in modern pop and R&B music. The superstar received more than 400 awards, two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Awards. The iconic singer sold more than 300 million records. But the singer with the megawatt voice and powerful range struggled many years from well-publicized problems with drugs and alcohol, and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown.
Houston died as she was preparing to attend mentor and music producer Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan will pay tribute to Houston at tonight's Grammy Awards.

This is just so incredibly devastating! I love this woman so much! You were one of the greatest to ever do it! I'll miss you terribly Whitney...
