Police have released the 911 audio tapes in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed Black teenager killed by a neighborhood watch captain in suburban Orlando on February 26. Martin was returning from the store when he was shot by self-appointed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who has not been charged by police.
Listen AFTER THE JUMP ...
In a series chilling recordings, several neighbors and pedestrians call police to report screams for help, gunshots and that someone was killed. In one eerie recording, gunshots are heard and the voice of Trayvon Martin saying "No! No!" and crying before silence.
Police also released the 911 call made by Zimmerman, who has admitted to police that he shot Martin as the teen was returning from a convenience store to his father's home in the gated community. Martin was carrying only a soda and a bag of Skittles, but Zimmerman told police that he looked "shady" or like he was on drugs.
"This guy looks like he's up to no good, or he's on drugs or something," Zimmerman tells the 911 operator. "He's just staring, looking at all the houses. Now he's coming toward me. He's got his hand in his waistband. Something's wrong with him."
The 911 dispatcher specifically told Zimmerman not to leave his SUV and confront Martin but he ignored their instructions. The Sanford Police Department has not explained why Zimmerman left his vehicle or how he and Martin came to be face to face.

Awful. Just awful.

This is so horrible. The boy was clearly crying for his life and that SOB shot him dead. And why hasn't Zimmerman been charged yet?

Why is Zimmerman still free?

I wonder if he changed his phone number since it was clearly mentioned on the 911 tape. The reason he hasn't been charged is because there is clearly a cover-up and I hope the FBI gets involved so justice will take place. I can't believe he told the police he shot the unarmed teenager in self defense and they let him go home like killing another person is just a walk in the park. WTF???? Zimmerman CHASED him down and shot him, where is the self defense here??

You guys pretend to believe there is justice in the US. This whole case is a just so American. This what 'we" get shot dead in our own gated community by the very people who rather official police officers or neighborhood watch personal will shoot us dead and walk free. We just don't matter. TRAYVON MARTIN - brother - this case is going to change everything. This is it. Really this could change everything. Too bad President Obama is too busy trying to get re-elected bc this could be his most GLORIOUS moment.

SELF DEFENSE MY A$$! GEORGE ZIMMERMAN SHOULD BE UNDER THE JAIL! THAT WAS AN EXECUTION. HE INSTIGATED THE SH8T SO HOW CAN HE CLAIM SELF DEFENSE? I HOPE THE MARTIN FAMILY SUES THE CRAP OUT OF THE GATED COMMUNITY, GEORGE ZIMMERMAN, THE CITY OF ORLANDO AND THE STATE OF FLORIDA FOR DRAGGING THEIR A$$ES IN DOING THEIR SWORN DUTY. A BLACK MAN'S LIFE DON'T MEAN SH*T TO THESE PECKER WOODS AND I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF SEEING YET ANOTHER YOUNG BLACK MAN SO FULL OF PROMISE, BEING STRUCK DOWN AND THEN HIS DEATH BEING TREATED AS OF NO CONSEQUENCE. I WAS PLANNING A TRIP TO FLORIDA, BUT IF THIS IS HOW THEY VALUE LIFE AND JUSTICE, MY VACATION DOLLARS WILL BE SPENT ELSEWHERE! MY HEART GOES OUT TO TRAYVON'S FAMILY AND I KNOW THAT HE WILL GET JUSTICE. THE LORD GOT THINGS SET UP BEAUTIFULLY. WHEN COURT JUSTICE FAILS, STREET JUSTICE ALWAYS PICKS UP THE SLACK.SORRY FOR ALL CAPS BUT I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE STORY FOR AWHILE NOW AND EVERY TIME I READ IT, I GET ANGRIER.

Just a few years ago, many of you proclaimed that Obama's election signaled a post-racial era. Anyone who disagreed with you was boldly told to GTFOH with that bull. How's your post-racial era going?

Zimmerman is Hispanic. This is a serious problem. I'm over this.

"Zimmerman is Hispanic. This is a serious problem. I'm over this."
Not surprising.

Why is this man still not in jail? Why?!?!

I think conviction on hate crime charges may be difficult, I also think murder one-premeditated...no problem....
Posted by: robby | 18 March 2012 at 15:09
if this was not a hate crime then there's no such thing as hate. zimmerman hated trayvon the minute he saw him because in zimmerman's deluded mind, trayvon was different and different means dangerous and dangerous means that you must be destroyed.
i know no one means any harm, but i wish people would stop referring to trayvon as a man. this was not some grown man murdered in a fair fight. trayvon was a baby. he may have been over six feet physically, but he was a baby and when i think about him begging this monster for his life and the monster showed no pity or human compassion, it kills my soul. i have not been the same since i heard of this case. yes, young black men have been executed for centuries, but when i see trayvon's picture, he looks like someone from my own family. trayvon looks like my little brother. he looks like my nephew. he looks like my little cousin.
trayvon had barely tasted life let alone lived it and now his life is snuffed out because some deranged lunatic wants to play act like he's the town sheriff.
in no way shape or form am i a bible thumper, but i truly believe that there are people who have no souls. how can you witness a child begging for his life and answer him with a gunshot to the chest unless you are empty inside with no human feeling?
zimmerman's picture has been shown to the world at large and i'm not advocating vigilante violence, but one day someone is going to remember zimmerman as the child-killer that he is and it will be his turn to beg for mercy.

This is hurtful to no end. I'm so disgusted by this situation as to be almost speechless. That a young man's life could be so maliciously taken is beyond words. The best I can hope for is that this man is brought to justice and that no one loses their life in this manner again.

What a tragedy. Trayvon Martin was hunted down and was assassinated point blank. The police are complicit in this killing. In my opinion, when the assassin (George Zimmerman) called the police, the dispatcher nearly deputized him to kill this innocent child (who carried only candy and a soda). The police dispatcher practically encouraged Zimmerman to discover as much about the boy as he could. I know some will say the dispatcher's questions were routine practice, but Zimmerman understood the dispatcher's questions and comments as tacit approval to proceed with the child's assassination. I also know the police dispatcher at one point DID tell Zimmerman NOT to follow the boy, but he should have ORDERED that Zimmerman return to the "safety" of his own home. Instead, the police dispatcher and Zimmerman planned and collaborated to apprehend this innocent child. This is a tragedy and I have NO confidence, whatsoever, that justice will be served.
Where are the big named celebrities that we all know and love? I am texting and e-mailing and donating a few dollars here and there to support the pressure, but my voice and power are minute compared to others.

Echoes of Emmett Till...
I think of Till's mother and imagine how Trayvon's family feels...
