Yaassss! Newark Mayor Cory Booker will become the next United States senator from New Jersey!
Booker decisively won today's special election against Republican Steve Lonegan—who was forced to fire his top campaign strategist over the weekend after the staffer's "rambling and profanity-laced interview" that suggested Booker was gay.
The 44-year-old charismatic, media-friendly, tech-savvy and LGBT ally will become the "first African-American ever elected to statewide office in New Jersey," notes the Star-Ledger. Booker also becomes only the ninth Black to serve in the Senate.
"Senator" Cory Booker has a helluva nice ring to it. Bravo and congratulations.
