Light posting this week. I'm traveling to Dallas and returning to Chicago for two important conferences on gay men's health.
Catching a flight to Dallas this afternoon for a 2-day trip to the 2013 NASTAD National Stigma Summit on Black and Latino Gay Men’s Health. The conference is sponsored by the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors and will bring together health departments, funders, policy makers, advocate and stakeholders "for a dynamic dialogue centered on stigma that impacts Black and Latino gay men’s health." I've been asked to moderate a session stigma and bias against Black and Latino gay/bisexual men in the media.
There is also a Twitter Town Hall on Thursday evening at 630P/CT. Follow @NASTAD and use the hashtag #HIVstigma.
Returning to Chicago on Friday morning to join a panel at the second annual SHINE Conference sponsored by the The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. "Building Bold Innovative Partnerships to Prevent and Reduce STIs/HIV Among Youth" is being developed by SSA’s SHINE Network, Access Community Health Network and the Gary Comer Youth Center. The conference will begin at 9AM Nov. 8 in the Gary Comer Youth Center at 7200 S. Ingleside Ave.
The speakers will include Rep. Danny Davis, the University of Chicago's Dexter Voisin, Alida Bouris, Harold Pollack, Keith Green and many others. My panel will include FOX Chicago anchor—and my former colleague—Robin Robinson, the University of Chicago Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Innovation in Sexual and Reproductive Health's Seed Lynn and Tim'm West, the Director of Youth Programs at Center On Halsted, celebrated poet/spoken word artist, HIV/AIDS activist and my fellow contributor to For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Still Not Enough. The conference is free and you can RSVP here.
