At least seven people are dead and thirteen are wounded after Friday's night horrific killing spree near the campus of the University of California Santa Barbara, reports the Los Angeles Times. The alleged killer: Twenty-two-year-old Elliot Rodger, who was found "slumped at the wheel of a shattered BMW, a gunshot wound to his head, three semiautomatic handguns and more than 400 rounds of ammunition at his side." Rodger is the son of The Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodger.
Rodger has been alternatively described as "troubled", "tormented" and "mentally ill". Rodgers was biracial—his father white and mother Asian—and apparently was enraged at his lack of success in attracting "pretty blonde" women. Rodgers uploaded a series of chilling, misogynistic videos to YouTube where he promised "retribution" toward women for these perceived slights.
The alleged killer also had disturbing digital history of misogynistic "rants against interracial dating and Black, Asian and Indian men," on the site PUAHate.com, reports the Southern Poverty Law Center. PUAHate is described "as ostensibly a website dedicated to criticizing pickup artists (PUA) and seduction experts who take money from men for tips on dating and getting sex."
In January, Rodger posted a message, entitled “Saw a black guy sitting with 4 white girls,” in which he expressed his outrage over white women socializing with minority men: "I passed by this restaurant and I saw this black guy chilling with 4 hot white girls. He didn’t even look good. Then later on in the day I was shopping at Trader Joe’s and saw an Indian guy with 2 above average White Girls!!!"
The alleged shooter apparently was obsessed with white privilege and entitlement. In another post, the biracial Ridger eviscerated "full Asian" men as "disgustingly ugly."
[W]hite girls would never go for you. You’re just butthurt that you were born as an asian piece of shit, so you lash out by linking these fake pictures. You even admit that you wish you were half white. You’ll never be half-white and you’ll never fulfill your dream of marrying a white woman. I suggest you jump off a bridge.
Rodger's posted a video message to to YouTube on the day before the shooting spree. "If I can’t have you girls, I will destroy you," he warned.
Investigators say that Rodgers detailed his obsession with entitlement, race and privilege, as well as his misogyny and sexism, in a rambling 140 page, Unabomber-style "manifesto" entitled "My Twisted Life."
